I think it's pretty safe to say that LSU's string of DL draftees will continue

...if Anthony Johnson or Ego Ferguson come out early. Freak has all the intangibles to be a first round pick (size, quickness, strength). The only thing that has held him back from all reports is his techniques. Ego is still a mystery to me. I hear that he has really made great strides. And Chavis speaks very highly of his DT combo. That makes me believe that Ego will also be a good candidate to leave early.

Ego is only a junior? It feels like hes been on the team for like 6 years

I think both leave. Both have a good shot to go 1st round, but I think Freak goes a round before ego. JMO

The question isn't will DL from LSU get drafted.

The question is, once they do will they be any good?

Those are all "tangibles". Intangibles are toughness, heart, football IQ, etc.

What on earth makes you think either sniff the first?

Ego has had zero impact and is an upperclassman, Johnson has shown some flashes, but has not been exceptional in any facet.

Is it really THAT far-fetched? Both were very highly recruited, both are getting their first opportunity to be the main guys. Every year we have guys who step up (especially on the DL) and become first round-caliber guys.

Well I hope that both of them stay till there senior year. Yea I know its good for recruiting and all that crap to have lots of NFL draft picks but I want to see what these guys can do for all 4 years. There is a lot of money being thrown at these kids but damn you will never get these amazing years back and if you dominate again your senior year you will probably get drafted higher. If Ego has a big year he will go pro because this is his 4th year but Johnson will be a senior after this season and I hope he comes back

Yes.

If they were that good, why did we suffer through Josh Downs, and why was Logan, a late round pick, by far our best tackle?

Not knocking the guys, I pray they have breakout years.

Because that's the way shite works out sometimes. It's not always as cut-and-dry as you think. I just don't think it's that ridiculous to think that either Freak or Ego would be first round picks. Freak especially has shown flashes of absolute brilliance. Given a chance to in our 2-deep, think he will shine.

With a nickname like "Freak" this doesn't really surprise me. He probably played his whole life being a man amongst boys. He never really had to worry about using good technique until college.

I'm sure the coaches have addressed this, but I'd imagine it takes a lot of time to get good at playing with proper technique when you have never really had to play that way.

It typically takes interior lineman longer to adjust to the college game than most other positions. Defensive tackles with exceptional physical tools usually blossom in their 3rd years (Glenn Dorsey, Michael Brockers, Sharrif Floyd.) It stands to reason Johnson and/or Ego could be in for a breakout year with increased playing time.
