re: I must confess that the hype-tards have me expecting a great season from LSU

Qb play has me nervous, but I'm choosing to be positive. And if the wheels start to wobble and fall off, then I'll start to be less positive. But as for now, I want to enjoy my life, not live in despair.

The entire landscape of CFB has changed. You have to be able to score at least 24 consistently to have a chance to win vs elite competition. If we get down by 17 how do we get back in the game?
Here's the thing about that... college football has adapted on offense to feature high scoring offenses with gaudy passing numbers with an emphasis on speed... as a result, more teams are transitioning on defense (LSU included) to have lighter and faster players in their front seven.
So when a defense adjusts its personnel to be more effective against these offenses... what are they supposed to do when they're faced with a team with 1500 lbs on the OL, a 250 lb fullback, and a 230 lb running back hitting in the mouth 50 times a game?
Think Stanford-Oregon, LSU-Texas A&M, Clemson-Florida State....
Trust me, in the next 3-4 years, you'll be glad that LSU is committed to its offensive approach... particularly with Okeke-Valentine, Teuhema, Weathersby, and Campbell are bulldozing defenders and Brossette, Ducre, and Guice are putting up 250 rushing on the regular.

Why should we have to wait 3-4 years??????

Well we ran the same offense last year and avg 225 ypg on the ground.. We still won only 8 games......
So whats your point?????

"Despite my grave misgivings about QB play this year, I have drunk the Kool-Aid served up by the Super Pumpers' irrepressible optimism. Granted part of my enthusiasm is part and parcel of the usual delusional confidence that fans everywhere have in their teams before the first kickoff.
If the defense is anywhere near as good as the hype, that alone should keep the Tigers in every game this year. All that would be needed to make a legitimate and perhaps irresistible run to the championship would be a decent QB."
Chill out, dude. We go 9-4 or maybe 10-3 this year, anything better is overachieving. We won't be in the playoffs this year. Let's wait and see about next year, perhaps.

You can cast judgment whenever you want, and I trust that you will... my estimation is that it'll take 3-4 years of high caliber offense before the mantra about Miles and quarterbacks finally dies down.

We also gave up over 550 yards of offense to Auburn and Miss. St and had a DC that mailed in the bowl game... I've already addressed the Alabama and Arkansas games.
All we need for an undefeated season this coming year is our defense playing up to par (and forcing some goddamn sacks and turnovers), our offensive line playing up to par, our running backs playing up to par, and 2-3 clutch throws per game.

I disagree. Chip Kelly said that he needed to find a way to be able to compete with less talent. Last season the only team that had more all around talent was Bama. We lost 4 games with that big arse line last year. Teams with less talent are beating us. Several of these games are too close. We really can't develope the young players because most of the games go to the wire. This offense is hurting us more than helping us.

Can Ohio St. say the same thing????
How about AU, Or Baylor, Notre Dame??????
BTW.. 2-3 clutch throws a game????? If you think thtas all it will take then you are a...

What the hell are you talking about? Our roster was as depleted this past year as I've ever seen it. Let's take a look at our 2009-11 recruiting classes, which should have composed our seniors for the 2013-14 seasons.
2009
Sam Montgomery - DNP in 2013
Kevin Minter - DNP in 2013
Barkevious Mingo - DNP in 2013
Michael Brockers - DNP in 2013
Akiem Hicks - DNP in 2013
Bennie Logan - DNP in 2013
2010
Eric Reid - DNP in 2013
Ego Ferguson - DNP in 2014
Spencer Ware - DNP in 2013
Tharold Simon - DNP in 2013
Tyrann Mathieu - DNP in 2013
Brad Wing - DNP in 2013
2011
Anthony Johnson - DNP in 2014
Jarvis Landry - DNP in 2014
Odell Beckham - DNP in 2014
Trai Turner - DNP in 2014
2012
Jeremy Hill - DNP in 2014
I mean... we were just absolutely gauged these past few NFL drafts. You can't expect freshman and sophomores replacing that production to go toe-to-toe with juniors and seniors and come out successful the majority of the time.
This is why I'm excited for this year. Losing K. Alexander and D. Hunter stings right now, moreso than it did in April because of the attrition in the front seven since then... but losing three players early is a hell of a lot better than the 18 we've lost in the last two drafts.
This will be the first year since '11 that we truly have a comparable roster to Bama.

either they got me goin' or i just like to be more positive than real!

But these guys are full-on troll with JJ was a good QB, Les wanted Chavis gone and Steele was his top choice. They live in imagination land so the narrative fits.
silly boy, all is an illusion!

Ohio State will be fine... they already know they'll get great play from Barrett and Jones and they can basically do the tango to the playoffs with that B1G schedule.
Auburn will need exception play from an unproven quarterback unless their defense makes VAST strides... they're also replacing a great deal on the OL.
Baylor I see taking a step back this year. They have a brutal stretch in November with K-State, Oklahoma, OK St, and TCU in consecutive weeks... and as much as I like Art Briles, he's never managed a 10-win season without exceptional quarterback play.
Notre Dame is.... Notre Dame

I am sure they have a third-string QB that would blow the doors off either of LSU's starters.

All I can say is LSU had better find a QB.

Still I am excited like every year with the Tigers, But with our schedule I still say 8&5.

Malik Zaire is a redshirt sophomore with 35 career pass attempts in two games. and Brian Kelly isn't fit to be in the same discussion as Les Miles. Notre Dame will drop games to Georgia Tech, Clemson, USC, and Stanford and finish with the same 8-5 record they have every year.

And there is nothing saying LSU won't drop games against AU,South Carolina,Bama,Arkie,Ole Miss and A & M........ Its very possible... None of those games are LOCK wins for LSU... They SHOULD be but they aren't...

Les has never lost to A&M, he's never lost to Carolina... he's never lost to Auburn at home. He's won 4 of the last 5 against Ole Miss and 7 of 10 overall, and he's won 4 of the last 6 against Arkansas and 6 of 10 overall.
There is quite a lot to suggest that LSU won't drop those games. The season, as always, is going to come down to that first weekend in November.
