Nick Saban at MSU

quote:

1995–1997?—?Beginning in 1995, Saban moderately improved Michigan State's fortunes, taking the Spartans to minor bowl games (all of which they lost by double-digit margins) in each of his first three seasons. From 1995 to 1997, Michigan State finished 6–5–1, 6–6, and 7–5. In comparison, MSU had finished 5–6, 6–6 and 5–6 (prior to NCAA forfeits) in 1992–1994.

1998?—?On November 7, 1998, the Spartans upset the No. 1 ranked Ohio State 28–24 at Ohio Stadium. However, even after the upset and an early-season rout of then-highly ranked Notre Dame the Spartans finished 6–6, including three last-minute losses featuring turnovers, defensive lapses, and special-teams misplays, and failed to earn a bowl invitation.

1999?—?Saban led the Spartans to a 9–2 season that included wins over Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. However, the two losses were routs at the hands of Purdue and Wisconsin. Following the final regular-season game against Penn State, Saban abruptly resigned to accept the head coaching position with LSU. Saban's assistant head coach and successor, Bobby Williams, then coached MSU to a Citrus Bowl victory over Florida, giving the Spartans an overall record of 10–2 for the 1999 season. It would be the best season in terms of wins for the Spartans since 1965, and it would see the Spartans reach their highest ranking since the 1966 team.[25] Future NFL head coach Josh McDaniels served as a graduate assistant on Saban's 1999 coaching staff.

Upset of #1 team in the country and a 10 win season.

How does O stack up to that?

Where did you see this? If true that is yet another indefensible twist.

Jesus jumped up and down Space Clownboy. 15 years! You need to get back into the capsule from your space walk. Your brain is oxygen deprived.

Captain Obvious, the point was even Saban was lackluster at first. Are you a Rocket Science major?

Saban went 9-2 his only year at Toledo. Then took over a Michigan State program that went 14-31 the prior 4 years. Now THAT'S a rebuilding job.

He went basically .500 for a few years, but then went 10-2 in his 5th year there.

O went 10-25 during his only time as a permanent head coach.

No comparison whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me what Saban's records were at MSU his first 4 years? Chill tfo regarding O. Would you seriously want Herman

The past 4 les miles recruiting classes have avg ranked #4 in the country. That's tied for second best with Ohio state and FSU. When miles left, we had talent all over the field except qb

Please don't compare a young Savannah at msu to O at LSU.

That's retarded

I hope so too. I hope it works out better than my hope that Jennifer Anniston moves next door.

But in reality I know that there are better odds that Jenn could pull in any minute

Fans at USC wanted him as their HC but they didn't get it. Trust me, his interim job there and at LSU got him the job here. He did superb in both stints. Are you willing to deny that?

I deny it completely. He did okay. The teams he beat were horrible for the most part. He played 2 teams with a pulse...I'll let you figure out which teams those were

Michigan State was also on probation when Saban got there & he did not have a full complement of scholarships.

His record as an interim coach, 12-4, is the equivalent of 9-3 which is not superb in any way.

Right? I mean damn, les had a 78% over 11 years...O couldn't even do that with 2 completely loaded teams. 75%

No comparison? Were they riding Nick out of town in East
Lansing like you are with CEO?
Way to discount what Coach O has done at Interim stints at major schools.
If you can't be objective take your toys and go home.

How do fans make delusional comments like this? Les went 34-6 in his first 3 years at LSU. He won a national title , a SEC title, and two SEC West titles.

Orgeron just lost 37-7 to Moo State in his first SEC game as head coach and looked horrendous in every way. It was the worst loss to Miss. State in LSU history.
