I live in The Millerville area of Baton Rouge. My home was just a few inches from going under water on Saturday when the water finally stopped rising. I thank the Lord for my good fortune but at the same time many friends and neighbors just down the street and hundreds of homes of my neighbors in my area and in Louisiana are suffering tremendously.

While many are lending a hand to their neighbors and friends please remember the many who are not as fortunate in your prayers.

The strength and resilience of Louisiana are on display once again and while I understand this is a Sports board I want to thank everyone who has helped and once again ask for your prayers for the flood victims.

God Bless and thanks.

Well said. In tragedy, this state has (mostly) always made me proud.

Yes, really hate to see this. Nashville had a similar though lesser flood in 2010, never seen anything like it. The sad part is all the folks who have no flood insurance, there were lots up here that didn't. They never thought they would need it in a million years.

Having been raised in B.R. this touches me a little closer than would be the norm. All my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost their lives and to those who have suffered in countless other ways. Just remember, when things seem the darkest is when The Lord's light shines to show us the way home again. Again, Blessings to you.

I too am in the millerville area and the water came just below the top of our slab and just to the bottom of our car's undercarriage keeping us dry. Just 2 houses over and everyone else in that area all had 1 foot or more in their houses. Doing all I can to balance out the karma that kept us dry by helping out any neighbor that needs it whether with manual labor or using our house as a storage facility for their valuables.

I guess the silver lining in all of this is everyone is meeting neighbors we have never met before and hopefully building some neighborhood camaraderie.

I expect many downvotes, but don't you think your "good fortune" was just luck rather than divine intervention. If it was divine intervention, did the Lord just like you better than all your neighbors, whose homes He allowed to be destroyed and lives turned upside down?

Or maybe it was just luck.

yea, I guess thinking for myself about worldly happenings instead of blindly attributing events to a divine being (while watching my neighbors suffer) makes me a sad MFer.

Notice that I never said I didn't sympathize with the OP, only questioning his explanation for why his house didn't flood. But hey, I'm a sad MFer.

Well put. I know how you feel. I find myself feeling, for lack of a better word, guilty that my house is totally fine while people all around me are suffering so much with the damage to their property.

All I can do is volunteer time and food to help my neighbors get through their misery.

I saw many guys in the Marines who oozed bravado and declared themselves as atheists.....until they ended up in Nam and the shooting started. There are no atheists in foxholes. You too, my friend, will have your moment!

Russian, as a veteran of a bad Kortina experience and (before that) a house fire and a break-in, I can empathize and sympathize with folks who are suffering now. I have survivor guilt from last week's flooding event. As normal humans we can't watch something like this happen and turn a blind eye or not assist.

To the earlier poster wanting to make this thread into a Secular Humanist vs Theism discussion, GFY. You're a bore and no one likes being around you. There's a bunch of honorable Mennonites who have each done more real good in a day than you'll ever do in your entire faithless smug life.

Get back to grooming your goatee, vaping and listening to NPR.

As someone who had no damage as well as my immediate family, I feel guilty that nothing happened to me. All I can do is go out there and help people that need it. I've gutted a couple houses so far and freed up some people to get back to work and their families. It you feel bad about what happened, do the same. It helps.

Rain falls on the just and the unjust. I happen to believe in Jesus and believe he died for my sins on the cross. He died for Yours as well...you are just too stupid to realize it and give a damn about it. Screw you. God is real and he is coming back one day and you will meet him for the first time under really unfortunate circumstances. You don't know this man's story or his familys and why he believes in God and you do not. If you seek you will find. You dont. He does. You haven't. He has. Maybe he is a son of the most high and you are not...hurts doesn't it. Gramps6226. Glory be to God.
