Next year LSU has 0 chance at making the tournament. Why bring in a new coach now? Let Jones fail again and then you bring in a new coach in 2017. New coach can start in a year that lsu has a chance at being successful

So set the program back some more?

If you know you are going to fire the guy, do it immediately.

I wonder if Alleva has reached out to potential candidates if Jones fails next year?

This really doesn't make any sense. A good coach can turn the basketball program around with one recruiting class. Why put that class off? Also, look for the term "rebuilding" to be introduced after the final departures from this seasons team. JJ will get a pass on next season because it will be a "rebuilding" season...

So keep a shitty coach around and let him shittily coach your team and miss the tourney instead of bringing in a better coach and at least coach up the players that might stay past next year and have a better foundation.

Makes cents.

There are coaching changes needed throughout, which included Miles in November.
It seems to me that F. King effectively keeps Aleva from doing anything meaningful, either by denying him the support (Miles) or the money to accomplish the severance/ rehire.
I am not a big Aleva fan, but it sure seems to me that his hands are tied by the invertebrate who is presiding over the university.
F. King thinks he is unable to explain and we are unable to understand that the fiscal crisis faced by the university as a whole is separate from the athletic department challenges.

THIS. The "waiting to fire the guy" philosophy is what got us in the mess in late November. Alleva is a moron and is turning LSU into a laughing stock.

Original Poster makes the assumption that there is a plan. I guess I view this as a leap of faith. I would suspect that the administration is a little gun-shy because of the mess that the fire/rehire of Miles turned out to be.

This year ended with a whimper and the prospects for next year are really kind of bleak. If the plan is to wait a year to hire from a stronger position, then that is at least a plan.....not a great plan but a plan. I really hope to be surprised next year by the team. With Q and Simmons gone alone with the senior(s) the talent level may suffer, but maybe a renewed chemistry will get better results.....hey, I can hope!

Florida AD Jeremy Foley once said, regarding the firing of coaches, "if something needs to be done eventually, it needs to be done immediately"

With all due respect, that link is a really bad example.

The article is about Larry Fedora, after he had two bad seasons in a row. Fedora's Tar Heels went 11-3 in 2015.

If Larry Fedora keeps serving up games like last week's 55-31 loss to East Carolina and last year's 66-50 loss to Georgia Tech, then he will be looking for a new job sooner rather than later.

Don't you have to build something in the first place before you can claim to be "rebuilding"?

That reporter was using it about Fedora. Foley said it about Ron Zook and a couple of other coaches whom he fired at Florida. The school that has won the SEC all-sports trophy so many times in a row under his directorship that it has basically been retired to Gainesville. When he made that quote he had just fired Zook and hired Urban Meyer.

ETA: article mistakenly dates the quote to 2002, but it was actually 2004

Foley

Believe it or not, there are quite a few Gator fans not altogether happy with Foley. They feel he's been really slow to make improvements to the facilities for the big three sports.

UF just built an indoor practice facility for football, one of the last in the conference to do so. The Swamp has had only minor cosmetic improvements, and is far behind other football stadiums in the conference like Tiger Stadium, Neyland Stadium, BDS, Kyle Field, and Arky's RRS in terms of premium seating.

Their baseball stadium is terrible. No shade, no premium seating, and the only way to provide shade would be to flip the field, which Foley has ruled out on grounds of cost.

The O'Dome is getting a nice makeover, but it will be one of the smallest basketball arenas in the SEC when done, at 10,500.

The grass, it's always greener.

Another sub par year will make the program unappealing.

I do believe it, and have heard some of the rumblings myself. In the arena of hiring coaches, however, which is after all the subject of this thread, he has more than just a little credibility.
