How Ugly Will the Anti-Miles Backlash Get Next Season?
Posted by timlan2057 on 12/8/15 at 7:33 am345
So far, the immediate reaction to the hiring-firing fiasco from the fanbase, donors, alumni, etc. has been passive and resigned acceptance.
Anger seems to be sprouting in the days after, especially since Miles has essentially given the finger to administration/fans as a whole with his statements that no staff changes will be forthcoming and apparently the barbecue buddies, BDP, Cam, and Steele will be staying.
People's anger is directed at slightly different angles. You have:
1) Those of us who were at the game--and those they represent who weren't--who honestly thought we were being good sports and giving Les a good sendoff in gratitude for the past--and then watched the media twist that into some mandate for Les to stay.
2) Big donors who were essentially told to "stuff it" by King Alexander when they ponied up the buyout money.
3) Those who sympathize with the big donors, think King Alexander should have stayed out of the hiring process, and believe the LSU athletic department is an independent entity.
4) The longtime "Miles haters" for whom this fiasco just added fuel to the fire.
5) The Jindal-haters--which include many republicans/conservatives for whom his political stunt in saying he "made some phone calls" only made them madder regarding Miles.
6) Those fans who sincerely believed it was time for a change and hiring Jimbo Fisher would have set not only LSU football, but LSU athletics up for years--and immediately would have set anticipation--and yes, expectation--through the roof next season, given who we have coming back.
7) Those angry at the media clowns with the brass to first, bash Les for his buffoonery for years then second, praise him for being the "winningest coach in LSU history" and warn LSU fans to "be careful what you wish for," and then, declare that LSU football "just isn't good anymore" after Les is retained. LSU was shite on through the whole process but Miles came out smelling like a rose.
For all these groups, a loss/sloppy win in the bowl game will fan the flames--and that's likely, given that we thought we'd steamroll Notre Dame last season.
It could really begin with a the same mistakes/penalties/offensive shite-show against Wisconsin in Green Bay--especially inflamed with camera shots of BDP in Les's ear.
Let the season play out with sloppy rent-a-wins and more futility once we hit the meat of the schedule in November and we receive our now-expected arse-kickings from Alabama, Arkansas, and Ole Miss--exacerbated by Miles refusing to change anything--
And I predict the sign precedent--started in the A&M game, will continue next season around Tiger Stadium. Only this time they will say "Fire Miles" and they will dwarf the number of "I Love Les" signs at this year's game.
So, when it's more of the same from Les and his staff of cronies next season this fanbase will be very frustrated.
I predict the atmosphere could get very ugly in Red Stick City in the fall of 2016.

TL;DR
But I would imagine most of the pumpers and even all the women and whipped men who they're with that came out in strong support of les this year will be calling for his head.
Ashame that politics and these idiots cost us another bad year and cost fornette a heisman. Wasting his last year just to give miles and his merry band of men another year is sad.

When he's 4-4 at the open date I image things will be very ugly.

Or...we could have a dominate football team, win the SEC and make the playoffs. Sure we have some question marks (e.g. Linebacker). But Fournette, Harris and Dupre in year three plus a great supporting cast could resemble the 2011 team.
It's now offseason. Up to you to choose to be negative or optimistic.

If LSU looks bad in their losses like this season and have multiple, I'm sure it will get bad, just like this season
and I'm pretty confident Miles will be gone if that happens
I mean...things were pretty bad after the Ole Miss game this year.

Who would allow fans and/or administration to dictate their staff?

I'm off the wagon for Miles but this is exactly what he should be saying until after signing day. If you're pissed about this you don't understand college football in its entirety.

Or the 3rd option, apathetic. I'll always cheers for the players on the field, but our coaches need to put them in a position to win. This staff doesn't. Plain and simple. Miles may change; he probably will not. Honestly, life is too short to care as much as I used to anymore. It sucks but that's where we are with LSU football.
He changes; we win championships. He doesn't; we win 8/9 games a year.
It's up to you to determine your own definition of success.

This board will get very ugly. The fallout from this fiasco will be a joy to behold. I have a feeling that some of the pumpers will have to stop posting altogether.

There were those of us who pointed that out in threads days before the game that the media and administration would misunderstand what the cheers were about.
And why would we expect the media to get it right anyway? When the fans boo, the media seems to think those booing are doing so aimed at that particular player, when it is/was directed to the coach.
Regardless of anything else, the pumpers, the politicians, and the administration thummed their nose (no pun intended) at TAF and the average Joe t-shirt buying fan. But those same groups who lobbied to keep him will be crying and begging for money once this melt boils dry and evaporates.

Next season? Something tells me that Miles better feel like he's coaching for his job on December 29th against Texas Tech. This game is very important for Les Miles and the immediate future of the LSU program.

So out of all your ridiculous hyperbolic scenarios, you don't see this team led by experienced juniors with even a chance at a great season next year?
If you don't, then you shouldn't be taken serious. Predicting 100% certainty of doom and gloom makes you sound like an imbecile but knowing the source, it isn't surprising.
