I'm going to be bashed to shite for this thread, but I don't care. Many will accuse me of being a "bitter pussy" for pointing this out. Again, don't care. If you are familiar with my post history (some call it whining), I find humor in the obvious and sometimes it is just too obvious not to laugh at and point out. So, here goes.

It is well documented by media, etc, of LF's ability to break a game wide open with long runs. We have seen twice this year where LF has come out on the first or second play of the half (Syracuse, USCe) and break a long run to put the game out of reach. I believe he did it to EMU as well but it was maybe the third or fourth play. Either way, this topic was discussed by the media this week and during the UF game multiple times.

With LSU up 28-14 and getting ball first in the second half, I personally was waiting for it. A long run, maybe not a TD, but anything that got LSU a score, 3 or 7, would have put LSU up by three scores starting the second half and the game would be out of reach....

Or so we thought....

LOL. Here is where it gets good, at least to me anyway.

In real time, on the first play of the second half, you see a flag come in from the Umpire or Back Judge before the ball is snapped. If you are familiar with football and officiating, right off the bat you are thinking "false start or illegal formation" since the flag came in before the ball was snapped.

Nope. Not this time. The call? HOLDING.

That's right. Holding.

The good old honest SEC ref was able to call holding on poor #64 BEFORE THE PLAY STARTED.

Watch the replay. It was so blatant that you literally have to laugh.

How did this official see this before it happened?

Yeah, he didn't. God forbid LSU blow out a team during the "SEC Game of the week on ESPN". We already had a blow out earlier in the day during a prime SEC match up. Couldn't have another one.

That same ref who saw holding before it happened missed several obvious facemasks, late hits, blocks in the back on kick returns, etc....but he sure "saw" that.

Or did he? LOLOL

Like I said, sometimes the obvious HAS to make you laugh.

If you are telling me a ref threw a flag for holding before the ball was snapped, I'm gonna need a gif, video, or a timestamp

The SEC head of officials that grew up in Birmingham, AL, is hard at work in the SEC offices located in Birmingham, AL, and will be meeting with referees whose paychecks are mailed from Birmingham, AL, to correct these issues for the upcoming big Alabama game happening in Tuscaloosa, AL, which happens to be the school where said SEC head of officials attended.

What could possibly go wrong for LSU here?

The refs allowed a UF cover. The cheating is going overboard.

Yea I just pulled up the first play of the 2nd half. It's a holding call but well after the play had started. Are you still drunk?

that was one of the quickest holding calls I have ever seen

don't know if the threw it before the play was snapped, but I was shocked when they called holding because I was sure it was for a false start

It was thrown after the snap but normally a hold is called as a runner is passing the linemen on a run. This penalty was called way too early and the op has a point.

That can't be seen on the TV viewing. I'm at home and just looked at it. The Umpire throws it well after the start of the play, while Fournette is in the line being hit. Unless someone else threw another flag that was seen in the stadium but not on TV, it was only this one thrown and it was well after the start of the play...not even close BTW.

I love a good ref bashing thread...and this crew was fricking horrendous...and I'm NOT even saying they had not premeditated calling a hold on that play to do exactly what you suggested (though with no evidence of that it's kind lame to suggest it) but it was definitely not thrown pre-snap.

You're exaggerating on the timing, but I definitely asked out loud how in the hell they called holding so fast. I thought it was going to be a free play for the defense lined up in the neutral zone.

Literally what I just watched. Fournette went past Clapp on his right and the UF defender came to Clapp's left, and promptly got hooked by Clapp low and was taken to the ground. Clapp didn't grasp him, but from the U's perspective it kinda could have looked like he tackled him.

I resent having to defend this fricking crew btw...

It wasn't pre snap but it was really damn early imo in terms of a holding call. I know was the LSU player headed to argue the call and was turned around by another player. It was very questionable at best. Especially considering the severe lack of holding call towarda florida
