How terrible is BYU?

At one point of time, we looked somewhat like a pretty solid football team. I didn't think we were winning the West at all. But my expectations were a 8-9 win season.
I would have never figured that we were this bad. How terrible could they be to make us look like a good football team?

I remember thinking during that game that we should have been winning by a lot more, and wrote it off at the time as growing pains for a new offense.

Maybe, but apparently BYU is one of the worst FBS teams in America, based on performance alone. This past weekend they were creamed by a bad Utah State team, and that was following a BYE WEEK ADVANTAGE for BYU.
What I would like to know is, what happened the week between UT Chattanooga and Miss State? That game vs an average (at best) MSU was just nightmarish and nothing prior to that could have foreshadowed such an outcome.

I live in Logan, UT, home of Utah State. They waxed BYU Friday, 40-24, BYU with 7 turnovers. USU can be pretty good team but not this year, though their two losses are to Wisconsin and Wake Forest. BYU is terrible this year.
