I know I'm one of the last Jones backers on the board. But I'm really curious, how many points is a bad or good BB coach worth? Let's say we fired Jones last year and got a great coach this year. Do you believe we would have a much different record right now? Or how much more competitive would we be?

For what its worth, I realize Jones is and probably should be gone after this year. I love this past years recruiting class, but he missed alot in the couple of years before that and we are feeling it now. This team is way too young and the upperclassmen just aren't showing up. Should be a nice foundation for the next coach though..

Unequivocally, yes. LSU's starting 5 (before Victor was lost) is not a bunch of lightly-recruited bums. Blakeney, Sampson, Mays, Victor were all top 100 players (Blakeney, Victor and Sampson were top 50). Reath has been a pleasant surprise. His size, length and ability to knock down shots away from the basket at least have NBA scouts taking a look.

Even though LSU's offense has no structure whatsoever, they have still generally been able to score with just individual talent alone. LSU doesn't defend AT ALL, and the same problems show up game after game. This isn't a matter of the players being physically out matched. What's going on with LSU basketball is the result of the team basically being a rudderless ship.

Now Jones has to get credit for bringing the players in, but I have no doubt that 75% of major college coaches could have gotten more out of the LSU teams of the last 4 years than Jones did.

Jones lost the team in the second half of the Wake Forest game. He's not getting it back.

How many points a game are you talking about? As many as the opposition wants. They're not even competitive at this point; the effort isn't there.

Simply put, yes.

Oh the one where we got ONE Juco Transfer Big when in reality we needed at minimum another forward out of High School if not two? And now our serious lack of depth at the position is showing since we kicked Victor off. That recruiting class?

I dont want to hear the young excuse. Its overused in college basketball. MSU has one of the youngest teams in the entire country and they blew the doors off of us. And no, we actually arent that young at all.

Don't understand why the rest of you don't get the question. Since CJJ is a terrible XXO coach and game manager, etc. If he had been fired at the end of last season and you had gotten your upgrade coach whoever that is, how many more games would he win with the same players? I would add, does he make a tournament?

Yes, points. With a better coach you would expect better scoring and defense. What would be the net outcome? I'm basically asking, how big of an impact people would expect from a better coach? Points are just a way to quantify it..

Points only count in a game.

So, if John Wooten (sp) were available, you would just as soon have JJ?

How many bigs do you want under scholarship? If we think back to last summer, he had Victor, Robinson, Bridgewater, Epps, Reath. Thats is 5 for 2 positions, not counting Simms or the other guy that I think got a 1 year scholarship this year that doesn't ever play. I get why he didn't sign more at the time. Losing Victor is huge though. Also, the 3 upperclassmen being ineffective does as well..

Well if Im not mistaken we had another scholarship available. So to answer your question without even getting into talent, at least 1.

We already knew Robinson is ineffective. Epps is not a forward and I will continue to argue that. He may be a mismatch on offense, but he is not a big body that can defend down low. Bridgewater prorbably could have been relegated to a walkon and the scholarship gone to HS signee with potential. Bridgewater was barely seeing any action until we scared losing big time. Sims is also a tweener.

Also, realize that as of now we still dont even have a forward in the current recruiting class for 2017-2018. Which should have been our main focus.

Many on here will confirm Johnny fricked up big time with last years class by not getting an additional forward.

Tonight's expected starting lineup (if Blakeney can go) is four juniors and one sophomore. Blakeney is the sophomore. That probably would put us in the top half of all teams playing a game tonight in terms of classification of their starting fives.

Both signess this year are forwards. Both are 6'6-6'7 swingmen. But we have to get another big body, no doubt.

Is somebody out tonight? Blakeney and Sampson are sophomores. Sims and Mays are freshman. They have been starting Epps and Reath, who are both Juniors.

Alexander is very similar to Sims. SF tweener

Rachal is a combo guard.

Still no PF or Center. Which we have been lacking big time.

Unquestionably.

Now, let's address this:

From what I've heard, Alexander will have to redshirt next year. He tore his knee a couple of months ago. I'm not sure what his recovery time will be.

I agree on getting another big, that has to happen. But this team really needs a PG. Not a combo guard that can handle the ball. A pure floor general that can take charge. I don't know is Mays has that type of makeup. I really hoped that Blakeney would be that guy this year, with Quarterman and Simmons gone. But maybe he is just more comfortable off the ball..

Trust me, Mays is that guy. I've watched him play for a long time while he was growing up in the BR junior high ranks.

He's got a 2-1 A/TO ratio as a freshman. Best FT shooter on the team. Averages the most assists, and has a better 3pt% than patterson and Sampson.

Give this dude a good coach and he can be an incredible college PG. Keep in mind Johnny has had PG issues since day one. And this is a coach that used to play the position.
