How many think Ridley could have knocked down the interception?

When I saw it happen, my 1st thought was why did he not try to keep the defensive player from intercepting the ball? Did anyone else on here think or see the same thing?

i haven't rewatched, but my first thought was that he'd been pushed out of position and held, but i haven't heard much talk about it, so it was probably through P/G glasses (and beer goggles)

He's a RB, not a WR. It probably just didn't occur to him in the moment.

i would have liked to see him try but i dont think he could have

my first thought was why throw to a RB on a fade in the endzone
he was behind the guy fwiw and couldn't have knocked it down

i remember him trying but just having bad technique. he tried to come around instead of over the top.

Had that thought. After watching it again, said to my buddy that a TT or RR true receiver might have done just that, maybe different position or such and actually defended on the pass. That being said, I have no issue with JL throwing that ball, and the d back made an awesome play to come up with the int

the ball was thrown to the inside, the DB was about 3-4 inches taller with a higher vertical and he had position on him, here is a better question, why in the hell do we throw a fade to a 5'10" running back when we have a 6'5" wide reciever that can jump and touch the moon?

No...he tried and he didn't. He tried to jump in front of it but it just didn't happen.

first of all you should never throw a fade to a rb in the endzone. just dumb offensive playcall
Posted on 10/6/10 at 3:12 pm to Bobby Moore
Ridley already admitted he should have at the least grabbed the defender because he saw early on he had position for the int. Said he would never make that mistake again. Hopefully we don't see a wheel route called into the endzone again.

honestly i don't think ridley expected that linebacker to close the gap so quickly, THEN turn around in the very last split second and find the ball to intercept it.

I initially thought the same thing, but then I remembered he is a running back being guarded by a linebacker who made one h$ll of an interception. I liked the call, I just wished that JL would have made the throw over Ridley's outside shoulder, although Ridley might not have caught that throw. Either way, I liked the creativity of the call and the play.
On related note, I don't really like the fade (I think it is the most intercepted pass in the end zone) and I would prefer the bubble screen or quick slant on short yardage goal line. I'll take RR, TT or RS one-on-one for 2 yards anytime. Alternatively, I used to love play action to the running back who then releases down the goal line to catch the pass. Early to late 2000's, we ran that play well and it was hardly ever stopped. JL did try something similar on that 1st down in the last series, but our TE tripped and he had to throw the ball away.

Yeah, if anything he should have pulled the defender down and gotten the off. pass interference call.
But it's awfully hard to think like that in the moment.

It was a baaaaad throw!. Should have thrown it outside, sooner, or away. But it is what it is.

This. I have seen TT leap 11' in the air to catch a JJ thrown ball. This should have been cake.

+1
Ridley was expecting the ball on the outside and he was looking that way while the defender was on the inside in position.

I can't find any video of the play, but I'm almost positive the route was a wheel route...not a fade. I also remember him being open right away, so a quicker pass by Lee would have worked out well.
Again, I couldn't find video of the play, but it was not a fade.
