I thought it was pronounced geese. I've heard that pronunciation in North Louisiana but you know how they talk different than South Louisiana.

It isnt Geese
It is pronounced like Ice with a hard G in front of it
ETA: It is a hard G not a soft one

I live in N.La. and the only pronunciation I have ever heard is "Gise", with a long "I".
A while back, some poster stated authoritatively that the "G" was soft, leading me and, perhaps others to wonder if it was "Jise".
Then came someone who suggested it rhymes with "juice".
That is why the issue will not die...
Goin' with "Gise".

I have family with that last name and I can tell you with all certainty it's pronounced guy-ice..

it's pronounced guy-ice.....where the frick would you get a goo- or ju- sound out of gu
So you pronounce juice as juy-ice?

quote:Once again no. This infers the name is two syllables. I understand what yall are trying to say but that explanation isnt correct.

Weird, I've been saying Geese. Don't know why.

How in the hell do people have trouble with this pronunciation? It makes no sense to me at all. I have family with that last name and I can tell you with all certainty it's pronounced guy-ice.....where the frick would you get a goo- or ju- sound out of gu?
Some families pronounce their names differently from other families with the same last name.

For fricks sake. I was giving an explanation of the sound of the first two letters. It's pretty obvious there is one syllable.

Not a stupid question. Witness the fact nobody here can agree. Who will trust verne's pronunciation?

Hopefully soon we can pin "juice" beside Guice. Derrius 'Juice" Guice.

How in the world are you that angry over this topic? You're about as miserable as Jefferson on 1/9.
