This team is very young. But how did PM end up with such a young team? Did some kids go pro that he wasn't expecting to go pro? Did he miss on some recruits? These kids are probably playing like they are... young an inexperienced.

6 guys missing

This has a little to do with it. Not that any one of them would be full time starters last year, but they'd have experience similar to KRob's.

You basically had a stacked lineup last year. Don't worry that they couldn't hit for crap in Omaha, or basically all NCAA postseason. Poche and Lange carried the team in the postseason while our stacked upper classmen laden lineup couldn't muster much more than 2 runs against the likes of UNCW and ULL.

Please do not blame CPM for the youth and lack of veteran players this season. Nobody is to blame.

You definitely don't follow LSU baseball in the off-season.

I'm assuming that's why he asked.

This isn't CPM fault, if that's what you are getting at. When guys leave early, mixed, with seniors and transfers, that happens.

It wasn't like none of the 8 played an inning last year. Some played a fair amount last year just didn't start the majority of the year, thus considered new position players.

Everyone should have been expecting this type of season this year. This team is very young and will drop some games. I would expect them to get better as the season progresses. If we get super hot, maybe we can pull off making it to a Super Regional. Once there, anything can happen. It is to be expected to make a regional and hopefully compete in that region with this team though. I'd say missing the post season all together would be a huge let down, but we should be happy just making it into a regional and doing well.

This team will be damn good within the next few years though. I think they will put up runs in bunches and have decent pitching behind them.

It has a lot to do with the MLB draft. The draft really hammers seniors now. They have no bargaining power when negotiating contracts.

Thankfully it wasn't as bad back in 2008, or else Louis Coleman would have left after his Junior Year and LSU would not have won the championship in 2009.

I think pretty much everyone that follows LSU baseball closely knew that this would be a rebuilding year. What I want to know is how we were ranked in the top 10 preseason.

There was no reason to play the younger guys last year even though he still gave them opportunities, the Jordans were not ready for everyday duty, guys like Byrd were not ready. Deichmann was hurt most of the year.

Without Sciambra they don't walk off ULL.
Without Foster, he ended up being a key guy both at plate and on defense.

You had other sr's like Scivique who beat out Papierski and Hale.

You had the draftable guys like Stevenson, Laird, Bregman that were not going to turn down those draft positions.

Dammit. This is what I hate. CPM had his entire fielding starters drafted last year, yet we got embarrassed yet again in Omaha. Alex Bregman's last year, anyone could have coached that team. Now we are young so we can't point out that CPM sucks?

Notre Dame over-achieved when he was there, but it's obvious that the UVA coach was the real talent. LSU baseball can get so much better.

I have a bad feeling about this season. The pitching is not where it should be with Lange and the bullpen. The youth with the position players is real though. Every top coach sees this from time to time.

As the OP pointed out: last year should have been our year with the stacked lineup that we had. For some reason, the Tigers haven't been able to do shite at Ameritrade Park. But last season was our time.

Now, it's rebuilding time with the underclassmen. So expect growth spurts. Next season should be a Omaha/SR type year. Unfortunately, we have to wait another 12 months to be in that position.

We had our shot last year in Omaha. We just did not get it done.
