How could have Alleva make this decision on his own?

Wouldn't the board have to meet to give him the green light to keep Miles? I am just having a hard time grasping that this decision was made on the spot as a result of the game last night.

The hatred for Alleva makes no sense. He's a scapegoat for Baton Rouge columnists and radio personalities who made fools of themselves.
