I know we can only speculate, but as limited as we are right now talent wise at DT, it would present an option that is absent at present!

Somebody made a wise and calculated move to challenge his transcripts. To bad it looks like he'll never see the field this year absent a miracle!

LSU self reported the problem with his transcripts.

I agree it's bull shite how this entire thing went down. But besides qb D - line is probably the toughest transition for a freshman. So not a lot I'd think.

Wouldn't really have made a difference for this season. But we certainly need him moving forward as DT depth is very thin and will be next season as well if we don't get him on the team soon. We are in dire need of signing a JUCO DT.

I think he'd make almost zero difference.

I was under the impression that LSU self-reported to the Clearing House, not to the SEC office. Do you have other information?

Not calling BS, but that's just not my understanding of how things went down with the SEC Office.......

Well DG has shown potential at DT. The weirdness of the situations with both Treys leaves me shaking my head. Truthfully I don't think it matters much. In an ideal world all three should be the 5th or 6th DTs or red shirting. Remember 2011, 6 DTs in rotation. The problem seems to be the four that signed in 2013. Two or three may get better, but it needs to happen fast or this year is shot. Damn L. Neal moved inside at 255lbs.

I think there are about 350-360 reasons why he wouldn't be making any difference at all right now.

I was assuming that he had been allowed to practice when the rest of the team started fall practice.

Chris Jones, Nkemdiche, did very well last year as true freshman. Myles Garrett is also lighting it up for TAMU albeit against meh to hack competition.

I think getting Valentine just to take up two blockers would be a huge improvement for us.

Fat arse or not, word from practice is that no one can move him. If he can hold his position at the point of attack we could've used him this year.

I also heard he is our best DT.

This is wrong-headed. We are in great shape at DT for the next two years. It's THIS year in which we're weak. Ur young DTs are developing nicely. Godchaux and Lacouture will be dominant next year, and we'll very likely get good backup DT play from Bain, Heron, Gilmore, and maybe Valentine, next year.

You are thinking that nobody is going to get better, but college lineman improve drastically during these years. Ego, for example, didn't play at all his second year, but by the time he left, he was a high NFL draft choice. It takes some kids time. That doesn't mean they are busts. Heron, Gilmore and Bain will be in their third years with LSU next season. One or two of them will begin to shine.

We need four productive DTs. We'll have them for the next two years. There is no reason for a JUCO.

Feel free to correct me but I was under the impression:
- LSU self reported to the clearing house
- clearing house clears him
- another University whined to the SEC
- SEC has not cleared him

Did we establish who the other University was?

You would think one of the RSFR DTs would at least be able to get into the rotation for PT. We are so thin in the middle. I cannot remember a time when we were this thin at DT. Perhaps pre-Dinardo.

These Odd Coincidences & Rumors circulating on threads and in the media: Billy Gonzales present OC at MSST worked with Mullen and Meyer at FLA and recruited FLA as recruiting mgr, held up notable recruits he lost to LSU (PP7), left FLA unexpectedly with a message "I quit and going to LSU", replaced by a "bagman" kicked out of UM, was here a couple of yrs, left quickly, back after one yr in IN with buddy Mullen at MSU who jumped him over a couple of people to OC for last couple yrs. Has reportedly been linked to problems with Rashard Robinson who is friends with Valentine and helped recruit him to LSU, and rumored he is holding up Valentine, RR & TV both went to the same HS school which has had some accreditation problems. Make of that what you will.

I think Valentine lining up across from Dillon Day would have been interesting since Valentine has a very aggressive streak and I don't think he would have liked Day and MSST using his friend Robinson or Godchaux as stepping stones. Day outweighs Robinson by 120 lbs, and Valentine dwarfs Day.

In our 3 DL spread option defense versus their 4-5 WR set, he could handle a double team and slow down the runs up the middle with his size. Trey L would also have been helpful.

If we were running a modern spread offense like we did with Harris in the game then our OL would be five DL facing 3 DL and the QB in the shotgun with LF as a slot receiver or shifting to RB would get him out of that head banging into a 9 man front and everyone could quit ragging on the OL for not moving mountains.

It's mind boggling. If nothing else but to give some of the starters a little rest.
