I heard somewhere that y'all have a significant game coming up, that must feel good. Since Mizzou's season is already over (I stood in the rain to watch our shite show last week) I'm on to planning my away trips for next year. I expect to make two - to your lovely valley and to Morgantown, WV. If nothing else, next year will be a nice one for Mizzou travel.

Since the schedule will be released tonight, I plan on making my hotel reservations this evening for our 2016 matchup. Any suggestions for hotels that are close enough to shuttle/Uber to the bars/game? I'd prefer to keep it under $400/night.

Thanks.

I've never booked a hotel in BR, but $400/night sounds extremely high. Also, hard to answer this question without knowing info about the group thats coming. College aged? Seniors? Somewhere in between?

Seeing as though you are booking well in advance you shouldn't have problems with availability. Downtown hotels will probably be the best. Cool bars, nice restaurants, and really close to campus.

If you want to gamble, I would stay at L'auberge. Really nice casino/resort on river road. They even have a shuttle to and from the games, but if you plan on tailgating early then it probably won't be for you cause I think it only runs like 3 hours before the game.

Those are probably your best bet. Cheaper area would be in the college/corporate area. Also have some good restaurants/bars over there but you will have to drive or uber to pretty much anything you want to do.

Downtown (tons of options) or the Staybridge suites by campus

I appreciate these answers. $400 is on the absolute high end of what I'd spend - SEC game rates for decent hotels tend to hover between $250 and $350.

Last year I spent $250 on a super dumpy La Quinta in College Station; this year $350 on a nice Residence Inn in Nashville.

My group will include people from their 20s up through their 60s. We try to do a quasi-family reunion once a year for an away game. We all like to drink so we prefer to pay the premium to stay close by, as opposed to staying out of town.

We tend to skip the tailgating at away games, and instead hit the bars. It gives us a chance to experience the town. Also, we're all on airplanes so it's difficult to pack everything we need - although I keep telling my dad that one day I'm going to check my Smokey Mountain Cooker on Southwest. Maybe 2016 will be the year.

As someone said, you shouldn't have a problem finding a place for less than $400/night.

I would recommend any of the downtown hotels (Hilton, Hampton Inn, Indigo) if you want to go to bars. There are a bunch within walking distance as well as good restaurants. Everything else and you will probably have to drive to get dinner/drinks. Its also a short Uber drive down Nicholson to get to the stadium. I think they might have a shuttle on game day as well.

If you want to gamble, the Belle of Baton Rouge is downtown and has a hotel connected to it (but the casino is kind of terrible). Lauberge is a much better option for gambling but its way down River Road and gets really crowded on game weekends.

There's also a Staybridge Suites at the south gates of LSU that has really convenient access to the stadium and tailgating and a few restaurants/bars near it.

Outside of those options, the Renaissance is definitely the nicest, has a bar/restaurant, and is close to the mall and a short to bars/restaurants.

Plenty of options for you since you're booking this far in advance and really just depends on what your group is.

I would recommend the Hilton downtown, as they have a shuttle to the game.

The closest hotel to the stadium would be the Staybridge Suites on Nicholson...it is the only one that is easy walking distance...

If you want a concentration of hotels and resturants, try something around the college drive exit off I-10...there is the normal stuff like courtyard, crowne plaza, raddison, etc....good area to stay, but you will have to get a car or Uber...

If you want something out away from the university that is a little cheaper, but a damn good place to stay, try the Drury Inn...

unfortunately, BR is scattered and there is no place to stay that is going to put you within walking distance of everything....traffic around games is hellish, and Uber/taxis will cost you out of your arse if you can manage to even get one....

Baton Rouge is a little different from most SEC town in that there are a (relatively) large number of hotels in the area, so its not going to be that crazy for crappy hotels.

You would be making a huge mistake doing this for an LSU game. You absolutely have no need to bring tailgate equipment. Start on one end of campus and work your way across stopping at any tailgate that seems friendly (there will be a lot). Since we don't have any rivalry with Mizzou, people will be super nice and want to make a good impression. You'll get great food and plenty of booze.

Also, I've never been downtown on game days but I imagine its fairly dead because everyone tailgates. Just don't do it.

Definitely go with the downtown hotels or Staybridge. Downtown will have more entertainment for the older parts of the group but downtown is walking distance to campus. Just depends on what you want more.

I get this, but tailgating is our thing here. It would be a mistake to not tailgate before an LSU game. Seeing as if you aren't a team we play every year, and we have no reason to dislike you, you will be treated very well in BR.

I would suggest staying downtown. It will give you a chance to experience the restaurants and bars within walking distance. BR is in the middle of a downtown redevelopment which is really making it alot better. I wouldn't go to any of the casinos downtown if I were you. Yes you will be able to walk to them, but the Uber to Lauberge would not be terribly expensive, and its a significant upgrade to the casinos downtown.... Or you can just stay at L'auberge and go explore downtown/campus/other areas of town as you feel fit.

Alamo is always a fun experience. For 5 minutes. If you can last that long.

I don't have much knowledge on the hotels, but I wouldn't skip the tailgating if I were you. LSU tailgating will knock your socks off. It's not burgers and hotdogs, but delicious cajun delicacies like gumbo, sauce picante, jambalaya, pastalaya, étouffée, couchon de lait, boiled shrimp, ect, and all while drinking bourbon from when the sun rises to when it rises the next day. Walk around and introduce yourself wearing your colors. Put up with the friendly tiger-baits and get ready to enjoy good coonass hospitality.

I had to look it up. I love this online review:

".... the sheets were covered in stains. Not only of the bowel variety but stains that can only come from a male. ( if you get my point) if you don't because your a little blunt, SEMEN. Now I have lived in some terrible places being a Marine Veteran and this is worse than sleeping outside."

Right now I'm leaning toward Hotel Indigo.

I'm over in Baton Rouge constantly for business. Pretty much stayed in every Hilton and Marriot chain hotel in that city. My favorite is The DoubleTree by Hilton.

I just did the Hampton Inn Downtown off of Lafayette Street. Really nice, free breakfast, easy to get in and out of.

I've stayed at Hotel Indigo before and its not bad at all. Perfect location for the bars and restaurants downtown.

I want to stress this again. Do not skip the tailgating. You will be doing yourself a great disservice. If your family insists on going to a restaurant, go to Chimes and leave your family there. They will be able to drink all day there or it has a few other bars around there that they can crawl to if that's what they're into.

We won't totally skip it. We'll drink for awhile in the bars, then wander though the tailgating as we head to the game. It's what we always do at away games.

I'm just saying that when we all travel via air, bringing our own tailgating stuff is not usually feasible.

And I can't imagine that the bars are dead in any town on the Saturday of an SEC game. T-Town bars overflow all Saturday despite the tailgating, as do the bars in Oxford.

Mizzou has a pretty nice tailgating tradition, but it is concentrated in various donor lots, which are really spread out. Which brings me to another question: is it possible for a visiting fan to tailgate within a reasonable distance of the stadium?

That's fine, to each his own. Just know that my recommendation (and probably everyone on this board) would be to leave your tailgate stuff at home and make friends with some of the 150,000 people that will be on campus that day.

The south gates at Nicholson and north gates at Highland will be busy, but downtown I doubt will be until right before game time since its not walking distance. North gates has Chimes, Barcadia, Mahoneys, and some chains that serve alcohol if you consider that a bar. South gates has Walk-On's and a bunch of college bars around Tigerland, but those are a pretty good walk.

There are plenty of spots in free lots that are within walking distance of the stadium, but they will be in big open fields or the law school/uhigh if you get there early enough (before 11 for a late game). You can also buy a parking pass for around the parade grounds for $40 the day of the game (usually sell out around 12ish depending on the game).

Whoah - that would be a BIG MISTAKE! On the scale of planning a New Orleans vacation, but spending the whole time on the West Bank, or going to DisneyWorld, but playing Putt-Putt miniature golf across the street, or.... you get the picture - not just being a homer, but there's so many reasons we are perennially chosen as head&shoulders above allothers at tailgating, like no other - because we are.

Hey, for $399/night I'll kick out the roomies, sleep on the couch, pick up some beer & whiskey, and cook some local delicacy...
