Because I never pitched. How do you go from mowing guys down to not being able to find the strike zone on the next batter? Is it a mental issue?

Some hitters are better than others and the approach changes. Sometimes the ump misses a call. Sometimes it's because it's your first time in the stretch and the adjustment isn't made.

It depends.

Someone in the game thread made a good point. His control went out the window as soon as he had to go to the stretch.

Mechanics got a bit out of whack.

It's mental. After a bad pitch or two or three, you start to overthink and you get inside your own head and start screwing up. That's how it was for me back in the day anyway.

Mental leading to mechanical.

It's lack of command of the fastball and curve .. when he does command the two pitches, he is pretty dang good

Have you ever thrown a ball 92 mph into a 12inch by 12 inch box?

It's difficult. The slightest wrong step or grip or arm extesnsion can move the mall a foot or more at any point in time.

Great assessments, thanks guys. Didn't think about changing from the wind up to the stretch. That's when it seemed to have changed for him.

I thought it changed when the ump started squeezing him
