Is it fair to say the talent on offense was/is overrated?

-The WRs have continually dropped balls and don't seem to very good at route running
-The OL has been hit with injuries, but they are obviously not as good as we thought
-Although Etling has played admirably at times, he (and Harris before) seem to be a mid-tier at best QB
-The RBs are still first class

The scheme obviously has not set up the offense for success, but do you think we overrated the talent on O as well?

Overrated? No. Under-coached? Absolutely.

The talent on this team is superb, and that's partially why Miles just got fired, because he sucks at developing the talent he recruits.

Yeah all those first round draft picks weren't developed at all.

It doesn't have anything to do with lack of talent. It's about discipline. LSU has never played with great discipline under Miles. The players loved him because he didn't hold them accountable. Not trying to bash the guy but that's the truth.

I'm sure if the NFL was allowed to draft these kids straight out of high school like the MLB, they would have gone in the first round as well.

Not talent (necessarily). Might be. Might not be, might be varying degrees of things going on. Fact we've had many many highly recruited QBs under Miles that have not developed leads me to believe it's not talent that's the issue at this position in particular.

I guess so, huh?

No. I think we overrated the coaching staff for years.

I honestly think it al boils down to discipline. The offense in general looks sluggish and the players look like they don't have a care in the world look on their faces

Come on man. In an inept offense Dupre had over 1000 yard and 11 TDs in his first 2 years. Compare that to the first 2 years of all the LSU WRs this century and tell me he's overrated.

Dural has almost 1300 yards and 10 TDs during that same span (and would have more, but missed 2 games).

The drops are definitely a big problem, but just looking at what Diarse has done at TCU. These two would easily be 1000 yard WRs in better systems.

ETA:

It is most definitely not the talent that is holding the OL back, and Harris in another system would have crushed it.

It's about focus and effort. The oline has little focus or intensity.

I don't think the talent is over-estimated. Imagine what Urban Meyer could do with this personnel...

And that's why I don't think it's an over-estimation but a lack of coaching/development as others have mentioned.

The players on offense just said they will now start watching film.

That is 100% on coaching.

It's difficult to tell given the coaching issues. We should give them a few games under coach O to see if they improve.

It's ugly all around, sure they hit a nice play just because of the talent on the team but there is no consistency.

The return game (which I consider O) has shown some flashes at times but still, no consistency.

There needs to be some passion on the field and some SELF criticism, self motivation to get better, watch film on your own, find your weaknesses and improve on them.

Every coach, player, trainer, waterboy/girl, ball boy/girl needs to look in the mirror and ask, just what in the HELL are we do'n here.

Coach Oeaux will find out or he'll be look'n for a job at the end of the season.

It's his dress rehearsal and unless I miss the mark on this, he'll want to get it right.

Boutte (and sometimes Pocic) stand around like they waiting for a sandwich at a Subway counter.

Drops were from one WR and couple of TEs. Seems a little better lately.

OL has work to do in both Pass Protection and run blocking. Backs have to break first tackle to avoid a loss the way it is now.

Etling has impressed considering the OL.

Backs will shine with improved OL.

Overrated has the wrong connotation IMO.

The current problem is that they're raw. LSU hasn't sent a polished offensive player to the league very often, despite the elite talent in most cases.

Boutte is way to slow off the ball and just stands around a lot.

Pocic got his shite pushed in against Auburn.
