That forced fumble for touchdown against Kentucky is one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen.

Thanks for the video. Two thoughts: 1) It's easy to forget just how much impact he had any time he was on the field. Like others have said, he should have easily won the Heisman. It's a shame.
2) He's a really great guy who loves LSU, but Christ, Jim Hawthorne was always struggling to call the right play or to say the right player's name. One great example was the Bluegrass Miracle when he was said Jack Hunt had scored, not Devery Henderson.

Dude was a beast on the field. I remember a stretch in 2011 when I would have a bunch of y'all's games on my TV, and every time I looked up, TM7 was near the ball ripping it away from an opposing player. Wherever the ball was, he was right there. Heck of a player. Glad to see him having success on and off the field these days.

5'10" (maybe) - 180 pounds (maybe, weighing the pads and everything) - he had quick feet, for sure and corner speed, but he wasn't a track and field speedster - let's just say he did have outstanding football speed.

But, without any particular physical advantage - defensively, he just knew where the ball was and had a drive to get there and disrupt it. The single most disruptive defensive football player I ever saw, period. And probably the best defensive college football player I ever saw play live, possibly excepting Derrick Thomas.

Patrick Peterson and Bradie James were other outstanding players for LSU, but as far as being a "playmaker" - neither compared to Mathieu.

I thought the same, then realized the title of the video says: TDs & Takeaways

I don't why this video is missing his other punt return against Georgia. He didn't score on it, but i thought it was even more impressive than the TD return.

I thought the same thing. Maybe the most exciting player ever to wear the P&G. Single handedly turned around that Georgia SECCG , the Oregon game, and others.

The Honey Badger! I can't express how much I loved watching that guy play.

I'm watching our opener with UNC and I'm saying, "Who is this #14? This guy is really good."

Then the following year..... I've never seen a guy play like he does. Don't know if we'll ever see another like him again.

Ok, he screwed up and he learned from it. One of the best in my book.

Agreed. I remember watching that. He runs it back and then stutter steps, a few Georgia guys miss, he weaves his way through, 8 guys miss him in close quarters, that's just insane.

Dad and I watched that and we were yelling out, "Oh man! Seriously? How does he do that?"

Even Verne on the tv was beside himself.

Get over it and be glad he turned his life around and is on great terms with LSU

I'm proud of him and proud to call him a Tiger

That's most important

I know not everyone who has a tough upbringing has to turn to this route but he did have it rough growing up.. so when I see someone continue to seek help even after a relapse and truly change for the better I have so much respect for that.

He could have easily just fallen into the route of truly pissing his potential blessings away.. but he turned it around and has always loved LSU.

I believe his story and him being on good terms with LSU has helped LSU with New Orleans recruiting.

If he gets his degree, gets enshrined into a HoF or any other type of humanitarian award, I think I his story would make a great movie. It is writing itself before our eyes. TD would get the credit for calling him HB.
What would you call the title?
The Life of the Honey Badger Tyrann Mathieu: Taking what he wanted, giving his all to the game he loved. (Maybe this is the book title)
Yeah, yeah it's too long.

How many mistakes did Hawthorne make in this clips--looks like it was anybody but TM. Oh wait.

He was something special.. He was a debacle to Miles career once kicked off the team. Miles should have assign someone to keep a close watch on his outside behavior.

I remember the Cotton Bowl against A&M when he made an interception flying through the air parallel to the ground. I turned to my Aggie friend and said "Yeh that is one of our freshman." He just shook his head in disbelief.

I forgot how good he was his freshman year

I feel the best thing to happen to him was to get kicked off the football team. He was so large and was going to make some dumb decisions but he was humbled and found some good people to be around and turned his life around

Without that moment who knows what oath he would have taken.

Man oh man I wish we could've seen him one more year in Tiger Stadium. What a great tiger.
