On offense, Wisconsin's star is Corey Clement.

Coming out of HS, Clement was a consensus four-star recruit that was physically-ready to play from day one. He spent his freshman season behind James White (Patriots) and Melvin Gordon (Chargers), but still averaged over 8 yards/carry and rushed for 550 yards. As a sophomore, and running behind Gordon, Clement had a very good season, rushing for 950 yards on 6.5 yards/carry. Clement went into his junior season with a ton of hype, as Wisconsin likely has not had a physically-talented runner like Clement, outside of Gordon, maybe ever. A sports hernia injury derailed his season and he was never close to 100%. Even in Wisconsin's win over Rutgers, when Clement rushed for 115, he was not explosive.

Clement is built like a truck at 5-foot-11, 227 pounds.

Defensively, without question, Vince Biegel is Wisconsin's star.

Biegel was a four-star across the board in HS and is the top-rated 3-4 OLB, according to PFF. He can wreak havoc in backfields. He was looking at a third-round grade for the 2016 NFL Draft and decided to come back. Biegel plays with controlled-emotion. He and Dave Aranda were especially close, and Aranda had trouble getting through the conversation with Biegel when he took off for LSU.

Maybe, maybe not. If the point of this thread was to get UW fans to discuss the team, and then for LSU fans to tell them that each and every one of those players sucks, well, that doesn't seem like all that great of a thread to me.

I wouldn't expect a lot of shite talking from UW fans, because most, like myself, don't expect us to win. And I got over the unwinnable meaningless message board bravado long ago. The game will be played and we'll all know at that point how it's going.

I'm somewhat familiar with Clement and know he'll be trying to make a statement this year. While I don't think he's Melvin Gordon that's not an insult as those are big shoes to fill.

Can't wait until game day!

Two years ago Melvin Gordon was a true star. At least until he got hurt in the third quarter.

It seems like Wisconsin has a bunch of good, not outstanding, players coming into this season. By the end of the year I might have a better idea.

Some possibilities in addition to the guys mentioned:
Robert Wheelwright - wide receiver. Under the right circumstances, he can be spectacular. But he's been hurt and off-on the field.
LINK

Chris Orr - came on last year as a true freshman and wound up starting at linebacker.
LINK

Some of the sophomore offensive linemen who began starting late in the season last year, will eventually make the pros, but no one pays them a lot of attention unless they get caught holding.

I have hopes for freshman Alex Hornibrook at QB, but he probably won't even play in the game.

In summary, I would say there is no one particular player LSU fans need to be concerned about. Just watch the game and see how it develops.

On the offensive side of the ball:
Corey Clement - If you're the starting running back at Wisconsin, the spotlight's on you. Last season was his for the taking, but a sports hernia (that was operated on in Germany of all places) sidelined him for the majority of the season. A quality between-the-tackles runner that will push a LB back a few yards rather than break his ankles.

Ryan Ramcyzk - Wisconsin's had success with some transfers (JJ Watt and Russel Wilson), but they've come from other FBS schools. Ramcyzk's from UW-Stevens Point, but he preformed so well during his transfer year Joe Schobert singled him out as the toughest lineman he faced. Not anyone that played on the line in 2015, not any opponents, the guy from the DIII school. He'll anchor the left side nicely.

Troy Fumagali - Solid pass-catching tight end. TE's get a lot of play in Paul Chryst's system, either via a quick play-action pass or by finding a hole in the middle of the defense. Expect him to operate as a safety valve for the QB quite a bit, especially with no returning QB.

Defensively -
All the linebackers: Vince Biegel is the clear star, and Jack Cichy got back-to-back-to-back sacks in the Holiday Bowl. TJs Watt and Edwards (if Edwards can play by then) will provide support along with Chris Orr, and there's actual depth behind them. Wisconsin's had success recruiting and running the 3-4 defense with Aranda, providing a wealth of talent that can rush the passer, stop the run, or help cover passes over the middle. It's a big reason why Aranda felt comfortable splicing in a 2-4-5, or even just one lineman in a 3-point stance occasionally. If the Badgers do well at all in 2016, it's because the linebacking corps played up to potential. Will they with a new DC?

Rafael Gaglianone - You may remember him from booting a 51 yarder in Houston then sambaing. That was his first FG attempt in college ever. After a comparatively rough sophomore campaign, he's slimmed down by 20 pounds in an effort to get his FG% back up above 80% after he went 18 for 27 last year. Already owns 3 game-winning field goals: OT against Auburn, at Nebraska as time expired, and in the Holiday Bowl with 2:30 left to beat USC.

Why do that? Wisconsin is a program that I respect greatly. Year after year they win with talent that is undervalued. They should have beaten LSU in the opener in 2014. Playing Wisconsin in Lambeau isn't going to be a picnic.

A hernia and he needed to get his head in a better spot. Sounds like he's done that and is focused again.

This offense is a freaking wild card. I have no idea what to expect.

We won't start a safety at QB. That's reassuring.

Given what happened in our three losses, I expect Wisco to go right at the interior early and often with Clement. Given what I saw of him in 2014, he's quick and elusive. But I don't see him running anyone over.

Moral of the story, if we are strong in the middle, we win handily. If not, it's gonna be a slugfest.

Thanks for the thoughtful responses Badger fans. All semi-intelligent LSU fans have a healthy respect for your school. I have always been impressed with the competitiveness year after year, despite coaching changes. I am expecting a really good game.

I am going to be making the trip and I cannot wait. I had a good time hanging out with some of your fans in Houston. Can't wait to see you guys on "your turf". See you soon.

This is key.

In addition to the injury that derailed his season, Corey Clement admitted that he had his mind set on the NFL after three-years at Wisconsin. That didn't seem unrealistic with a good junior season, but it was derailed by injuries and sent him back-to-earth.

With a productive senior season, Clement still has very-favorable draft prospects as he is a physically-talented runner at 227 pounds with relatively low-miles on his legs.

Corey Clement does not run people over, but he has such a powerful lower-body that he slips plenty of tackles.

I should be in Green Bay around 8pm on Thursday. Leaving work in downtown Chicago around 4pm, but traffic is a bitch at the 90 (to Madison) and 94 (to Milwaukee) split.
