Tell the driver to drop you at chimes. Its at the very beginning of campus and would be a good starting place to walk from and see most of the action.
Do this. It's the closest and best way to experience tailgaiting. You can walk towards the indian mounds and people will take care of you all the way through. Go see mike the tigers cage there is a lot of fan festivities going on in that area. Also the march down the hill is a must see typically happens 3 hours before kickoff. Check back when the game gets closer and LSU will put a list of times for all events out. Also check the parade grounds out

It is a straight shot from the Casino to the stadium and I have walked it before, but I wouldn't recommend it because it's thru a very rough part of town. If you stay in a large group you should be fine. And with traffic, walking is just as fast...

We all meet at Sonic on Fridays with opposing teams for some fist sandwiches

Starting at The Chimes with a walk across the Parade Grounds, view of Clock Tower, Indian Mounds, down Victory Hill to Mike the Tiger's cage is a great route to get MOST of the highlights... but you'll absolutely miss the best and most impressive tailgating scene. Do NOT judge LSU tailgating just by what you see on the Parade Grounds. For the best, you'll need to walk all the way around to South EZ of stadium then explore the overnight RV parking lots from there onward in most every direction. Definitely do the former, but don't miss the latter also.

some Casino close to the Marriott. Looking at a map, it seems like a straight shot from the Casino hotel, to the stadium. Walkable? If so, how much of that walk is through tailgates?
If not walkable, is there someplace we should uber to, and start our day from there?
If it's the Belle of Baton Rouge you're staying at, you might also consider this - they pick up and drop off at the Belle. $10 round trip per person.

You'll be fine, but as others have said the area in between campus and downtown is rough. That's where our RB Derrius Guice is from and you can learn a little bit about it from hearing his story: The Bottom
As others have said, the North Gates of campus are a great place to start. Talk to the front desk at the hotel and they should be able to set you up on the shuttle to the game. There are a few decent bars right here at the gates if you want to start your day there. Alcohol and Food will no doubt be offered to you for free though so don't blow out the budget. From there, make your way down highland road and turn right on Dalrymple. This will take you to the Parade Grounds and Indian Mounds others have mentioned. You'll know it when you see it. I'd stay away from the fraternities on the parade grounds as I have seen them give visitors a less than friendly welcome before (throwing beer at them, fights etc.). Most older fans will heckle you with a "Tiger Bait!". This is in good fun and is an invitation to come up and talk football. Most will get a good laugh if you try to trash talk back.
Wander around campus and you'll have all the fun you need. Literally any direction you walk you will find tailgaiters. Go see the new Mike the Tiger and the team and the band march down Victory Hill.
I have plenty of recommendations for bars/restaurants/sites in NOLA too if you want to talk about that.

I usually recommend to stay away from the Parade Ground due to the fact it's loaded with drunk frats that will probably try to pick fights.
Drunk frats? yes. Picking fights? No way. By all means, tour the Parade Grounds. While there are frats there, there are also tons of middle aged people, and the atmosphere is very festive.
This advice has been given repeatedly on here to visiting guests, but I'll repeat it. Wear your Syracuse shirts. You will be taunted A LOT. If you smile and join in you'll be welcomed. There will be no need to go to Chimes or Walk Ons, because people will ply you with food and drink like you've never seen.
And seriously, I'm not an LSU homer, but you guys are going to be slaughtered. LSU has one of its best defenses ever, and the offense looks like it might finally be imaginative. This is a better team than the one that ran roughshod over the Orangemen in Syracuse two years ago.

Might seem strange coming from a complete stranger, but if you all get to town and have questions or want to hit up the tailgate, shoot me an e-mail... More than willing to help out.
Not strange at all, brotha. Appreciate it!

Staying downtown is best, can walk to any bar or restaurant in that area. Either take a shuttle from the hotel or just Uber to campus. Should be really simple.

I didn't want to bother you guys with random NOLA tourist questions, but if you're down to throw out recommendations that would be appreciated.
My girlfriend and I have never been, but I think the rest of my group have been a few times.

Syracuse is upstate not in the city. There are liberals everywhere of course, but not nearly as many of them outside NYC.

I understand wanting to be around other Syracuse fans but don't spend a lot of time at the Syracuse tailgate. Wander around the campus and you'll be offered better food and plenty of booze. Wear your Syracuse gear and remember these key words "That looks good. Can I try some?" You'll be set.
Thanks for making the trip down. The entire campus is full of tailgates. You can't miss them. With your age group, you can't go wrong with the area around the Indian Mounds.
If you are staying downtown, try Stroube's, Jolie Pearl, Little Village and Tsunami's.
Have a blast and come back to tell everyone about your day!

The casino is downtown so the location is fine...its just that when you go toward campus from the casino you have to go through the hood.
The casino you are staying at is called the Belle and of the 2 casino/hotels in BR, it is by far and away the "trashy" one. I've heard the rooms aren't very nice, either.
The Belle is north of campus. If you want to stay at the nice casino/hotel, look up L'Auberge online. It's south of campus and is remote, but it's extremely nice.
If you don't want to stay at a casino and only care about your hotel room as a place to sleep, then you are fine where you are.

You'll be good at the casino - but as others have mentioned it's rough between there and the stadium. Ask the Uber to bring you to the North or South gates of campus and walk around with an ice chest. Many Tiger fans will welcome you with food and drinks. You'll still run into the occasional douche fans, but that happens anywhere. Enjoy your time.

If you're looking to stay out after the game or any nights prior, 3rd street is downtown by your hotel and has some cool places to bar hop/get food.

Definitely do the Chimes drop off, but my suggestion is get there earlier than you think you should for a kickoff after 6pm, I'd say like 10am or earlier for a bloody Mary at Chimes bar and then walk across campus passing through the parade grounds, Indian mounds, down the hill to Mike VII habitat and watch the pregame team walk and band. Take time to walk around and visit with tailgates who are having a good time and walk all the way around the stadium and across to the RV lots to see the expanse of tailgating at LSU. Get into your seats early... I'd say about 15-20 minutes before the kickoff if possible so in line 30 minutes before kickoff to settle in for the 4 corners salute.
