Heading to Omaha with some buddies. Would have loved for the Tigers to be there, but I can't plan a trip in a weeks notice, so....

In any event, what are the non-game highlights - I know there's an LSU bar (of four) - anyone got names? Anything else going on with the CWS (fan fest, etc?)

What about a steak restaurant? I hear Omaha has good steaks....

ok

go to the Zoo you will love it and it is a lot of fun, if you don't have a game to go to one day spend most of the day there.

You must go to Barrett's BarleyCorn that is the LSU bar in town, you will have to drive there it is a good distance from the stadium.

go to upstream brewing company that is one of the best restaurants in town not a steak place but you can have an Omaha steak there. It had a chimes feel to it but more Chimes East and Chimes covington. (I forgot to mention they brew their own beer, you can get a sampler which is all of the beer they brew in like a 2 ounce glass I think.) (note: the steak I had was good but not the best I ever had )

Also not to far from that place is Ted & Wally's one of the best ice cream places in town they pretty much make a different flavor all of the time until they run out than they make a new one.
I went to the strategic air and space museum pretty cool. (30 min drive from Downtown Omaha)

Also not far from TDA is the pedestrian bridge, nothing real special but it is pretty cool to be able to walk to another state and back. There are also so very beautiful views of downtown Omaha and TDA.

You must also try wheatfields, that is the best Cinnamon role you will ever have, makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

One last thing three of the restaurants I mentioned are in an area of downtown where there are a lot of restaurants it is called old market but there are plenty of good things to do there. It's a 15 min walk from the stadium.

I think that gives you a good start.

Make sure to go by old Rosenblatt. They've done a great job creating a small baseball park or "memorial" to the old stadium. Notice the elevation of the old park and the wind blowing out to left field.

Get a whiskey steak at The Drover. Sort of like stepping into a 1970's time machine, but worth a trip.

Lo Sole Mio for authentic Italian. Owners are big LSU fans. PM loves it and was there with his family for Father's Day last year.

Cold beer by the stadium at The Mattress Company. Menu (bar food) is limited during CWS, but great location and cold beer.

Zesto's ice cream right by the new stadium. An Omaha tradition.

Walk across the pedestrian river bridge near the stadium that links Nebraska and Iowa.

If you have time, ride out to Lincoln to see the Nebraska campus. We did it last year. Closer than I anticipated. Nice athletic facilities and you'll see some wind farms on the way.

My favorite steakhouse in Omaha is Johnny's. Old school feel with good cocktails and excellent steaks. It's open late so it's convenient if you attend an evening game. The prices are reasonable as well and for atmosphere it's close to old stockyards. As for other recommendations, I concur with Catholic's suggestions. Have fun and go Dores!

Catholic nailed it.

I'd add the casino in Council Bluffs, IA, as well.

If you have a free day or morning, drive to Lincoln and check out Nebraska's facilities. They give free tours of their entire football facility including going on the field.

I concur with Upstream. Really cool place in a nice area of Omaha. We did steaks at Anthony's. Ribeyes marinated in bourbon!

The Henry Doorley Zoo (and aquarium) is one of the best in the country. It's right next to where Rosenblatt was located.

The Old Market area is loaded with shops, restaurants, and bars. My wife is from Omaha and always liked Spaghetti Works.

If you have kids, there's a waterpark park (Fun-Plex) which also has a few small rides. It's a good break for an afternoon.

There are tons of souvenir shops (and tents) located all around the ballpark. Be sure to wear LSU gear as the local crowd likes to have us there. One of those rare visitors (ULL or Ole Miss) will be there and will likely be outnumbered by LSU fans. They need to know it's Alex Box North.

For those who fly you can check the fares to/from Kansas City. It's 2.5-3 hours south of Omaha. The Worlds of Fun amusement park (Six Flags) is located there.

You may also want to bring a "real" baseball and "real" bat because you won't find any at the CWS. Also...don't expect a lot of offense because the new park wasn't designed well.

The only steak place i went to is brother Sebastian's. I think it's far from the best but the atmosphere fit my tastes. Outside of the resturant they have chant music playing outside. Inside they wear monkish robes. The chairs are designed to be like pews. I really enjoyed it but as said not the best steak by far in omaha. It's also cheaper I think. Steaks are anywhere between 18 and 40. Now I may have gotten a bad steak but they were apparently reviewed as one of the best in omaha. I heard there are ghost stories surrounding it as well
