I'm considering taking a job in Hattiesburg, MS and I know there are a lot of Tiger fans in the area. What can you tell me about the town, and where do people get together to watch games?

College town. Not really much to do.

The best place to watch a game in the Burg is at Buffalo Wild Wings. There are a bunch of LSU fans in that town because half of the students at USM are from Louisiana.
Some other decent sports to watch football is Chesterfields and the End Zone.

Yes, and there's a new place next to the Grand called the Alumni House that I've heard good things about. Just depends on what type of atmosphere you like.
I moved to the Hattiesburg area in '05. I like it okay, but it's certainly doesn't hold a candle to South Louisiana. IMHO.

It has to be better than central Oklahoma
Thanks to all who have given info.

Definitely. And if you're in the medical field then you would probably like it here. This is a large medical community.

The "crewe de pirates" hang out at Lockett Hall on LSU campus ever home game.

I would be taking the Neuropsychologist position in the Dept. of Neurology at the Hattiesburg Clinic.

I have lived here 7yrs and it has grown on me and the family. Downtown is pretty cool with a few nice resturants, clubs that draw some good bands, etc...Large medical community so that should help your transition as well. Quite a few of us Tigers here so that is a plus

Have you been here and visited the facilities?
I haven't required any psychological treatment (knock on wood) since I've moved here , but
the Hattiesburg Clinic seems to be an ever-expanding clinic--it's always under construction. I'm not in the medical field myself, so I can't speak to the quality or the state of technology advancement.

I was just there Thursday and Friday and saw a lot that I liked. I also like how it is close enough to BTR to go over for games.

I was in Hattiesburg all weekend and stayed next to the Alumni House. It was completely dead on Friday and Saturday night. It was also dead during the day on Saturday and Sunday.
It looks like a great venue and might be a little more crowded during football season. I wish it had the recliners like the AH in Ridgeland.

Well, it hasn't been opened that long...plus there was Jazz Fest in NO this weekend and the Crawfish Festival on the coast. As a town, Hattiesburg was quiet this past weekend. But that's another plus about living here, you're within 2 hours of just about anything you want to do.

I'm partial to Mugshots Bar and Grill for a game. It isn't some huge chain like BWW or the Alumni House. It's a more intimate atmosphere with good food and drinks. Plus, the bartenders are friendly and the waitstaff is pretty hot.
But I will admit, Alumni House has a lot of TVs, nice ones at that. It could be the place to watch games (it wasn't open for football season last year) because of the 100 TVs. You could watch the Tigers and other games as well.

I actually live in Purvis, MS which is about 15 miles south of Hattiesburg. I have been here since 1999 and i really like it here. It is very laid back and everyone is very kind. Probably the best place to watch a game would be buffalo wild wings! I have heard great things regarding the new alumni house, but have not been there myself. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for all the feedback

Lived here 3 years. Great place.
I attend almost every football game though, so I can't tell you where people get together to watch games. I'm not a fan of watching a game that I care about in a sports bar anyway.
Local alumni chapter is nonexistent.
