During his senior year (1972), LSU went 9-2-1. Except for one week, LSU spent that entire season ranked in the AP Top 10. That year, Jones became the first quarterback in LSU history to be awarded consensus All-American honors. Jones also finished 4th in the vote for the Heisman Trophy and was voted the National Collegiate Player of the Year by the Cleveland Touchdown Club.

JR didn't get an invite, but he must have gotten some love at some point in the 2006 season. I had pretty limited media exposure from July 2006 until the March of 2007, though.

I would think one would need to play more than one game to be a candidate . I just thought that all the recruiting brains considered this kid among the most elite quarterback recruits in the nation .

Believe it or not, ESPN had Jordan Jefferson in 5th place on their Heismanology watch when LSU was undefeated.
