Of the local guys, Rollins is far and away the most experienced. I do like Rollins in Baseball. Probably because I am older and he sounds like baseball announcers from my youth. I did not mind listening to him on the cox football replays.
I would prefer two announcers. The lead guy gets football and either Basketball or Baseball. I think there is too much overlap between Basketball and Baseball. Particularly if we make a run in the basketball tournament.

I can't believe Rollins made it this far. Hangriff is okay but Rollins makes him look like Bob Costas.

I don't like Rollins, but he's head and shoulders above Hanagriff from a PBP standpoint.

We make fun of Hawthorne for missing big calls...Did you hear Charlie completely fail on Stevenson's catch?

Netherton has been the play-by-play voice at Northwestern State for several years and was the sidekick to Tim Brando on Brando’s satellite radio show, which ended in May.

THAT's how his name sounded familiar! Hope we get this guy. He's hilarious and has a great radio voice.

i was about to post that. Sean Kelley is damn good at his job. Very sharp & always prepared.. Would be night and day compared to Hawthorne.

He is but being the former voice of Tulane will hurt him with some.

He really isnt. His voice is god awful and he makes comments like "pitcher couldnt hit sand if he fell off a camel" or "he's more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs".

And good god if he says pucker up one more time.

You may not like hanagriff and i can understand why, but he's nowhere near as bad as lynn rollins.

I'm guessing the pick is Rollins. From the Advocate linked article on page 1:

quote:

Rollins, a longtime television play-by-play announcer, is a four-time Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year winner. He’s announced more than 100 LSU football games and has been the play-by-play TV man for many of the Tigers baseball games this season.

That is more qualification than any other candidate combined, when you're talking about LSU. Hell, this paragraph might as well be in the LSU release when they formally announce everything in August.

ETA -- I'm not saying I like it. But he's going to have the best resume. If they do hire him I hope they insist he never says "pucker up" again.

maybe, but not sure why? cause Tulane is our "rival"?

he has a lot of experience in professional sports, with the Pels and Zephyrs. and he did all sports with Tulane. He has a very well rounded resume'. He'd be a great hire. imo

I like Hanagriff for his savant-like knowledge alone.

Regardless of his reputation on this board, Jim Hawthorne is in the top 10% of college sports announcing.

You should get out more.

If I could vote it would be for Wright.

To say Wright isn't good at play by play is a fallacy. You can actually understand what's going on when he is calling a game.

basketball

baseball

dude has a GREAT voice and loves Baton Rouge as he's done quite a few LSU games just in the last year.

he's my pick If I had a say. He can do it all.

his twitter is also hilarious... He's got a great sense of humor LINK

Rollins HAS to get this. If for no other reason than it just wouldnt feel right if our fans didnt have something to constantly bitch about with the pbp announcer.
