Saw this today on the TAF website: Gymnastics Practice Facility

I'm glad we're doing something. Maybe we're making room for the track team in the indoor track facility by moving gymnastics? I'm just wondering where this facility will go. Does anyone have any more info?

Hey!

I think they plan on putting this in the area of the tennis courts and old softball field. Of course this would probably mean they need to build the indoor tennis center too...

I've also heard that it could replace the parking lots between the basketball practice facility and the tennis courts.

Thank God they are building a new facility, the one they have now is just embarrassing to be associated with LSU athletics.

i think it's great and love the idea of always having the nicest facilities for every sport. It just seems the rest of campus is in a time warp.

the roads are absolutley horrible.

gov vs private.

the track team has earned a serious upgrade, but I would still like to see gym team do better, coaches should be able to win before they get new facilties, 34 years no SEC titles (none) and rarely in top 3 of conf even, Ala and UGA own us and I know SEC is best conf and Ala and UGA are top programs, but last year UF won sec and it was a first year coach, be nice to win (or even come in 2nd) in SEC now and then before spending big $$$, but gym coach has whole AD scared...big mouths dont win titles....I wish her well, but lets get some new blood, 34 years....time for a change?

I agree bbap, good point, it's chicken and egg, but Softball started a new program and won 3 sec's before getting new park, I guess my issue is the same Coach for 34 years and NO SEC's, I could be wrong but think EVERY LSU team has won at least 1 sec title since 1980's, except Gym, so I am for the facility, but also for a new coach...dont hate her, dont know her, just dont like the results and not sure how anyone can be OK with the program's status

Gymnastics HAS won an SEC title, albeit the first one in 1981, but Breaux does have 1 SEC title to her name. She won that title when no women's gymnastics programs in the SEC had good facilities.

Georgia, Alabama, Florida (to a smaller degree) and both Auburn and Arkansas all have legitimately better practice facilities than LSU.

By the way, Florida's coach has been there 9 years, so I would hardly call that winning the SEC in her first year.

Arkansas started gymnastics in 2003, and their practice gym is one of the premier facilities in the sport. Look at their improvement since they started. They've made it to the Super Six in both 2009 and 2010.

Having the best facilities, or at least being among the best in facilities, allows you to recruit the best prospects, especially if you are in a state that does not produce as many "highly talented" prospects like Louisiana.

There are a few really good gymnasts who have come out of Louisiana in the past and even recently - Gloria Johnson in 2008 and Rheagan Courville just this year - but overall Louisiana does not produce stellar gymnasts. That makes upgraded/state of the art/premier facilities even more important.

You can say you need to win first to get the facilities, but that makes no sense in sports that have been dominated by teams with the best facilities like gymnastics, men's and women's tennis, swimming and diving, etc.

Excellent post Booyah Tiger...other than Arkansas only being in the Super Six once, I agree with everything you write.

I would also like to add that LSU has recently produced numerous individual NCAA champions...Nikki Arnstad (FX), April Burkholder(BB), Susan Jackson (Vault,BB and AA) and Ashleigh Clare-Kearney (Vault and FX). Add the already mentioned Super Six appearances, and the program can continue in an upward direction...with good recruiting and facilities upgrades.

It's time.

some good points made, by our gym facility was re-done in late 1990's (admit we need a new one) and at that time we were at least middle of pack fac wise, so your best point is she won sec in 1981, that is my point, hard to beleive ANYTHING will turn a coahc who has won one conf title in 35 years into a winner....again, softball, terrible field, 3 sec titles before new park...sorry about my UF error, coach has been there 9 years...35 years, we desrve better, period
