Being tough on your players behind the scene is one thing but throwing them under the bus in public is chicken shite.
What should he have said?
"He's a great kid?" Maybe he's not.
"He works hard?" Maybe he doesn't.
"He's a great competitor"? Maybe he isn't.
All PM said was it wasn't a fit for him here and that it can be tough on players on such a big stage. A lot of Major Leaguers struggle in NY but thrive in middle America. Sounds like that's the case.

Compared to whom? Bregman? Zardon? Everyone? The Nolas?
Pick your shot. YOu seem to know so much about baseball in general and LSU baseball in particular.
I would like to know how badly Grayson was treated. Were any of the other players subjected to the same treatment he was or was he singled out?

Paul Byrd responds
"I fully support my son's desire to leave and am proud that he had the courage to make this tough decision," Paul Byrd texted. "I don't always agree with a player transferring for reasons of adversity because you'll have that everywhere, but in this case it made sense to me. In the end, I greatly respect Paul Mainieri, who is a proven winner and solid head coach. But his preference in player type and style of communication wasn't a good fit or translating well with my son. Our family LOVES the people and fans of and we will not be throwing out any purple-and-gold shirts from our closets. If that happened, we wouldn't have much left. I want the best both for my family and the family and pray the best for everyone."

Even if your boss makes you miserable? And you have a choice to move elsewhere to a better environment? Suuuure.

PM benched Bregman, and called him out badly when he was in his slump his sophomore year. And, certain posters on the Rant ragged on Bregman mercilessly during that time, especially with his Rake City tweet. Nobody faced more pressure than Bregman, and he said LSU was the best decision he ever made and an absolute blast.
Bregman got through the tough times; everybody has to eventually.
Sorry to see him quit; I wish he and his DAd would sit down, have a man to man talk and then he decides to come back.

He didn't call him out at all. He kept talking about his hustle on defense instead.

sounds to me like Grayson wanted a handout since his dad has probably been assuring you starting spots your whole life. The people who stick with Mainieri till the end do pretty well for themselves. Good luck to Grayson, but I don't think this decision was the correct one for his future. Prove me wrong kid

Oh.
Damn.
After having read some of your posts during the baseball season I would have guessed otherwise.

He has done this on several occasions and it has been well documented. The pressure has become too much for him and he's taking it out on the players,IMO.LSU's dugout atmosphere during post season play was very telling.

How do you get wanting a handout out of reading that. Obviously has nothing to with playing time.

He absolutely called him out: " I thought I'd recruited the best player in college ball" or words to that affect. You remember only what you want to,remember.

Honestly, good for Byrd. The higher you climb the ladder, the less fun sports become. Rec sports is more fun than high school which is more fun than college which is more fun than the pros. If you're not going to do this professionally, life is too short to do something that makes you miserable. It's his life, not the fans.
I've honestly got no problem with a kid walking away because it isn't fun. Good for him. You should spend college looking for something you love, so that the hard work is fun. If the work isn't rewarding, try something else.
I wish it had worked out, as I'm a big fan of his dad's, but that is life sometimes. It's not like he's throwing away millions of dollars or anything.

Well, he was right because "best players in college ball" don't quit when the going gets tough

PM is instilling something in these players otherwise they wouldn't be receiving MLB callus.
This morning on Jordy's show he had Will Davis on - Will indicated Chinea told him you don't realize how good you have it at LSU until you play Minor league ball.
Also, maybe Canizaro is making it a little more uncomfortable for these hitters considering the results Javi got.
