Golfweek magazine article "When Les is More"
Posted by TNTigerman on 6/22/15 at 8:58 am250
SIAP: From the June 15 issue of Golfweek magazine (that's right, Golfweek), there's an article entitled "When Les is More". Since a link is not available on the internet, I have typed it out:
Did LSU Tigers football coach Les Miles light a fire under the LSU men's golf team that sparked the school's first men's NCAA team title since 1955? That's what men's golf coach Chuck Winstead told "The Mad Hatter" when Miles called to congratulate him shortly after the Tigers clinched a 4-1 victory over USC in the match-play final June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, FL.
Miles was there to greet the team when it landed in Baton Rouge, and Winstead told him how he'd gathered his golfers before every tournament round and clicked on Miles' pre-game pep talk from the 2011 LSU Oregon season opener on YouTube.
"This game marks all the preparation of the summer, the spring and who we are as a team," Winstead shouted, doing his best Coach Miles imitation for The Man Out Front. He smiled. "They all can recite it."
For proof, sophomore Brandon Pierce picked up where Winstead left off, pausing to confirm, I said it about four or five time on the driving before the finals."
Thanks, Coach.
A phone call is one thing, but taking the time to meet the men's golf team at the airport is pretty cool and says something about CLM.

Is this the "Today is about dominating your opponent. Today is about being LSU!" video?

Say what you want about Les, he does love this school and constantly shows support to the other programs.
He even gets out there to shake hands with new graduates
