I have been a season ticket holder for years and attend many games throughout the season. One thing that always frustrated me was how the National Anthem is played before the teams are present on the field. I feel that in this day in age, athletes should be present for that defining part of the game day experience. They should be given the opportunity to respect and honor the flag. This could be used as a life lesson to mold these young men and make them aware of why we as Americans are given these special Saturdays in the fall. As self centered as some athletes can be, this is one moment when they can reflect and observe something bigger than themselves. We all know that the youth of America makes many mistakes, but why not do all we can do to encourage to stand up and behind something as powerful as the United States of America. Does anyone know why this is?

I've always wondered too to be honest. In professional ball, aren't the players on the field?

Also, the flyovers, fireworks etc are all missed by the players. Just would be nice if they could see/experience that part of it too.

I think you are being a little over-dramatic, to be honest.

It is like that at every college game I have ever been to (and I have hit all of the SEC sites). It isn't just an "LSU" thing.

I agree that the team should be there for National Anthem and Alma Mater. But I guess they sing it afterwards anyway.

On the other hand, I don't know if you could get the crowd quiet again. After the teams run out, TS doesn't quiet down until after kickoff.

It is a logisitic that is pretty much followed by everyone...

17:00 ish...Band on the field
Band performs pre-game songs for a few minutes, then does alma mater/national anthem
Teams come out onto the field...band rushes off field to get back into the stands.

There is no way any of this can/will change. The teams are not going to come onto the field at the 10:00 mark on the clock to hear the anthem...and they aren't going to have the bands play the anthem at 2:00 on the clock when the teams are on the field....then have to have the band rush off.

I do agree in principle...however, from a practical standpoint, I am not sure we would want to try to break the rush of adrenaline that the players and crowd get when the enter the field...

Everyone has their opinion, but was just curious.

Dramatic?? Tell that to all the Veterans who have bleed and died for that flag.

Yes, dramatic. Our Veterans have their own hospital system, pension plan, and holiday. Plus, they're constantly being acknowledged for their services. I seriously doubt they take offense to a college football team not being lined up on the field during the national anthem.

Pro games don't have a band on the field

I'd like to think that those veterans bled and died for the ideals the flag represents, not the piece of cloth. The flag is merely a symbol.

I enjoy hearing the national anthem before games, and I proudly sing along. If I were a player, however, I think I'd prefer to come blasting out beneath the goal post and have kick off be right then and there.

And yes...tremendously over dramatic.

Honestly, I'm sure no one is really interested in calling you out today. LSU has a tremendously wonderful pregame experience. To suggest they need to alter to it to essentially teach civics to the players seems a bit unnecessary is all many of us are saying I think.

The NFL games don't involve a pre-game band performance, and the anthem is sung just before kickoff. I agree that the logistics of college pre-game festivities make it very nearly impossible to have the teams on the field for the anthem. It has nothing to do with a lack of patriotism and everything to do with logistics and practicality if the long-standing traditions of college football are to maintained. I really doubt that the OP would suggest eliminating the pre-game in order to have the anthem immediately before kickoff, or have someone other than the TGBFTL performing the anthem. And it would be nearly pointless to try to have the band perform the anthem after the team makes its entrance through the band tunnel onto the field.
