Hi

As some of you probably know from my annoying posts... I am finally making the trip from England.

I'm landing in Houston at 14:30. Picking up a car and driving to BR. What can I expect traffic wise? Am gonna stop in Jennings to go to walmart and buy a cooler/beer so I don't look like a freeloader on Saturday.

I've booked at table at TJ ribs for 8:30pm on Friday night. Will I make it on time?

Such a random place to stop for a Wal Mart run, but it should be a quick off and back on the interstate.

You should be fine on time. Expect some traffic getting out of Houston, but if you stay on the outer loop it shouldnt be too bad. Also expect traffic when you get on the Atchafalaya Spillway all the way to MS River. You should be able to make it to TJ's for 8:30

More of a 4.5-5 hour drive.

4 hours? Y'all are flying down the interstate.

Thanks all! I'll let them know we might be late to our table.

Jennings was chosen simply to get off and get back on the interstate as quickly as possible!

I don't think I have ever been so excited about a trip. Will hope for no wreck and smooth sailing re traffic!

Your rental car may have a toll tag. I would suggest using it and taking Beltway 8 to I10. You will bypass most of the city traffic.

Consider skipping this stop. There is a Walmart near both TJ Ribs Restaurants in Baton Rouge.

Do I need a toll tag to do that, or can I pay cash?

Thanks. We'll go shop there then. It makes sense to get to BR as soon as possible. Again, apologies for littering this board with annoying q's.

I am planning on doing a trip 'diary' thread. Would cover our trip to Florida and at Ole Miss.

Can somebody post what exit you take 'to go through town' and avoid the cluster in Beaumont, and then get back on I-10. I've heard there's a way but I don't know the exact route.

More than likely you will hit traffic in Beaumont, and crossing the Mississippi river bridge from 3-8pm on fridays is difficult.

I'll be doing the Houston to BR drive around 4-5 on friday after work and fully expect 30 min to an hour delay.

This ^^^ God I hate Beaumont for this exact reason...once you get past Beaumont you should be fine. If you arrive at that time you're more likely looking at 4:30-5 hour commute.

Y'all are ignoring flying into the international gate, getting luggage, clearing customs, getting rental and THEN getting on the road.

Time and location in Houston-wise, I made the same exact Friday drive in August. Beaumont will slow your roll, for sure, and pray there are no construction delays or accidents as well.

Hmm I assumed approx 1hour 30mins to get landed and get through, then 30 mins to get car. Probably ambitious. Looks like we will be on the road approx 4:30-5pm. I guess ill push back TJ ribs or just forget it. Shame.

Yes you need a tag on that part of the tollway, no cash accepted. Most rental cars have a tag or some sort of system to allow you to use the tollways.
