Future of the PMAC
Posted by RoyaleWithCheese on 9/22/15 at 6:34 pm85
Don't attack for a basketball thread 3 days after LF7s day Saturday...
But in reality what's the future of the PMAC? It's getting old and falling behind in the SEC and the nation. It currently does not nearly meet the quality of LSU's other facilities yet is the most used.
Major renovation? Demolition and relocation similar as the Old Box to new Box? Don't forget there's a $13 Million practice facility attached in the back and not too much land around there.

The dome itself can be restored, upgraded screen, some better arena lighting, maybe some new luxury boxes and some new seats...

I'd be willing to bet that it will be torn down and relocated within the next 10 years. N. Stadium Rd. will be re-routed in it's place, and a new NEZ upperdeck will be built at Tiger stadium, Maxing out capacity at about 110,000.

I know TAF can make some big things happen, but that's a 200 million dollar undertaking that frankly isn't necessary. LSU would never add 8,000 more seats anyways. they'll redo the lower bowl before that. When they fill the NEZ I bet it'll be all club seating. The demand for upper deck tickets will no longer appeal that much by then.
I've heard from someone who would know that LSU is going to get a new scoreboard in the PMAC within the next 2 years. Honestly I'm not sure the PMAC can add suites, but I want LSU basketball to get to a good enough program where it has high demand annually for club seats first.
Plus from a fiscal standpoint LSU would look incredibly dumb bulldozing a very nice basketball practice facility that's what, 4-5 years old? Lots of schools build stand alone practice facilities, which tells me LSU will be in the PMAC for a very long time

LSU gymnastics is putting more people in the PMAC than basketball. I don't know that building anything new is the answer, it doesn't need to be much bigger but some updating would not hurt.

Basketball recruiting is a much different animal than football recruiting. There are other variables like AAU connections that can trump an average facility. The O'Connell Center, though about to be renovated, has been a dump, but it didn't stop Billy Donovan from accomplishing big things.
If possible I'd love for LSU to expand the concourse and add club seating, along with a new scoreboard. Do I wish the PMAC was more aesthetically pleasing? No doubt. But it's a fun place to watch a game and for now just fine for the program's current state.
Now if the energy market somehow just skyrocketed for the next 10 years (donor $$) and LSU goes on a consistent run, then I guess I could see it

3 words:
Cameron Indoor Arena
You don't need the Taj Mahal in basketball to recruit.

New track stadium at the old Box location. New O'neal Arena at the Bernie Moore location.

Upgrade it. Renovate. Leave the surrounding area alone.

Ben Simmons says hi, and that will change... i really do believe this class and the run we will make with these guys this year will put us in a national spotlight to consistently get highly rated recruits and continue where they will leave off...
i know its early, but with what have coming in, and what we have coming back, we could make a NC run.... all bullshite aside....

Look up the nicholson gateway project. eventually LSU will put up the new LSU Foundation, retail and places to eat, apartment complexes, etc....no way a track is moved there

I like it

It needs a new score board and LSU needs to do something about box and premium suites. We are getting left behind quick fast and in a hurry by the other SEC schools in that category.

You do realize that the PMAC can be torn and just a little bit of exterior work would make the practice facility look ok as a stand alone structure or match a new arena built where the PMAC is now, don't you?

I want more premium seating too, but do you really think LSU would put that project on the backburner if the demand was that high? We'd have at least heard whispers of some sort of project in the works.
Plus recruits don't give a damn about it. Get a new scoreboard and asses in the seats yelling, and recruits won't have a problem at all with the PMAC.

Sure they could do that, but my God that would look so unbelievably ugly
I'm not anti-new arena, but the PMAC is a good enough facility to not be some detriment. I am all for the idea of a new arena if we were successful enough to demand it, but boosters aren't going to raise that kind of money for the current state of the program
eta: do you also really think LSU is going to add 8,000 more seats to Tiger Stadium? Maybe 4000 or so in very nice luxury seating like one of Clemson's endzones, but LSU has no doubt maxed out its interest in upper deck seats in the day of HDTV.

Don't they have like 4-5 home meets a year where half of the crowd is children who get in free?

Has it been on the backburner? They just renovated the interior ~5yrs ago and we have heard rumors about suites and premium seats in the last year or so. So it will probably be in the next round of TAF improvements.

Not really. Look at how Bama covered up BDS, A&M completely changed the look of Kyle Field and State covered up exterior of DWS, so it can be done. Especially since LSU only spent $12million on the practice facility that is really low compared to the other SEC schools.

Current state of the program? The program that is about top open as a top 25 team? With a coach that is keeping LSU stocked with talent and we are poised to be able to compete for years to come? Just because we aren't winning titles doesn't mean the program isn't worth investing in.
I don't think they should add on to the NEZ other than putting in suites and a recruiting room like what UK just finished. There is alot more invovled in expanding the NEZ than just moving north stadium drive. I think if LSU does decide to replace the PMAC the best baet would be to tear down the PMAC and then rebuild in its current location. If you build a stadium up (like Pitt's arena) instead of wide it could fit in the PMAC's footprint and leave room to move NEZ if they wanted to, and it would tie into the practice facility. The only problem would be having to play at the River Center for a season or 2.

Pmac is a part of campus just like Tiger Stadium. Renovate do not replace.

Renovate the Ag Center into what it was back the day... At least for one game
