Who said anything about hotel rooms? Same day trips, Jet. You're paying for buses, food, and tickets. It's doable and shameful that they don't.

That would be miserable.

That's true.

Who knows then.

As for not going to that many road games, as best I can recall, I thought I read somewhere that the band only plays 6 programed songs a game ( not counting the music played after big plays & TD's & halftime). Primarily due to all the BS commercials that are played all game long and all the big shot boosters & companies that are recognized at the end of each quarter.

i don't think the OP is worried about the band he wants LSU to stop bitching about their budget crisis. which makes him a silly goose because they obviously have one.

At least over the past 10 years or so, the full band has only gone to one road game each season, not counting the SECCG or bowl games. I'm not sure if we're the only SEC school that does this, but I do know that several other schools send full bands to more than one road game, provided that they are within driving distance. It seems like we always end up sending the full band to either Auburn or Ole Miss, if either of those are away games. I can't think of a time when the entire GBFTL went to Bama, USCe, UGA, or Tennessee. They did go to Gainesville several years ago though.

As far as the administration only allowing the band to play 6 pre-approved songs each game, I wouldn't be surprised. They can't even stay after the game and play songs for the fans any more (SEC rule not LSU rule), although this isn't enforced everywhere. I hate the commercials as much as anybody, but I suppose they are a necessary evil. The thing I can't stand is when LSU trots out boosters during every time out and at the end of every quarter for a "Tiger Stadium salute."

That is not separate from the school. That is cash the school has and will pay for a trip to Ireland.

If you know where the money was coming from, why did you start this thread?

He wants LSU to stop bitching about their budget crisis when they're "obviously wasting their money" sending the band to Ireland on the same page.

Yeah...for all the away games I've been to, no other school does that nearly as much.

I might be wrong, but I think this only applies to away bands.

Also, we have done same day trips before. In 2009 the PP7 phantom interception game was a 1 day trip for the pep band.

(Again I could be wrong) but I think the reason we don't do more full band trips is because LSU pays for the tickets to the away games and sells them to their fans to make back the money. The band uses tickets up out of the LSU allotment. The pep band I believe takes up 150 seats, and the full band takes up 400. Again, it boils down to a money issue.

And other programs depend on state dollars, whereas LSU doesn't

LINK

In a time when subsidies for college athletics across the country are reaching an all-time high, a report published today by USA Today said that LSU and Nebraska are the only two athletic departments in the nation that receive no subsidies.

Why did the LSU band go to Birmingham the years LSU played Bama in Baton Rouge?

Now THATS a waste of money!

Ok. I didn't know that. It just seems like Tiger Band used to stay in the stands longer after games than they do now, particularly after a big win. Now they play the alma mater, one song from their halftime show, and Let us Break Bread Together, and that's about it. When Bama beat us in OT in 2008, they brought their full band to BR. They stayed after the game and kept playing.

I knew the Athletic Department is financially independent, but that's a good point. I never thought of the implications of that.
