Makes you wonder if the defensive backs were all that interested in filling the holes when Fournette was coming through.

It's pretty much a known fact with video evidence that LF would prefer to run you over in an embarassingly fashion instead of going around. Defenders take note

two different backs.

What makes Fournette so good is his combination of power and speed. If untouched, he gets up to top speed quickly and can outrun DBs. BUT, he needs the OL to blow huge holes open for him to get through. He doesn't have Guice's vision and if the hole doesn't open up in front of him, he's stopped pretty easily.

Guice on the other hand has terrific balance and vision. He's patient; sets up blocks and has great cut back vision. Plus, he's hard to knock of balance. IF LF can square a defender up, then what happen to the Ole Miss DB is the result. However, LF is much easier to knock off balance than Guice. Guice just doesn't have Fournette's top end speed.

It's funny, but Jeremy Hill was really a good combination of the two. He was a great cutback runner with good balance (though not as good as Guice in that regard), but he could also out run defenders (though no one has been as good as Fournette in that aspect)

Both are great. Fournette is more boom or bust. Guice is more consistent, but doesn't have the explosion Fournette brings to the table.

IMHO this is not an apples to apples comparison. While both are great, Leonard is overall the better of the 2. However, there are some individual characteristics in which Guice is better. I think over the entirety of a season, if both were in a similar system and designated as the "primary" back, you would see similar results.

However, their styles of running are very much different. About the only similarity is their determination and the amount of effort exerted.

You saw it on a couple runs DBS want no part of him. I like guice but at the same time I know comparing him to fournette is stupid he's 15lbs heavier he's faster he has better vision and much more power. We have backs like guice every year we've never had a leonard fournette not many have. I do notice that when fournette plays guice tries too hard he tries to hit the homerun every play instead of just taking the yardage that's there and hitting the big one when it's there.

Guice runs much better out of the shotgun than he does from the single back or I-form. I think that's because he's a bit more patient than LF, which can be a detriment at times.

FWIW Guice would have had very similar stats as LF7 with the holes he was running through

is that why he averaged 3.6 ypc running behind the same OL and the same number of carries. Guice may have a little more wiggle, but he doesn't have and never has had the burst of Fournette. And he spent far too much time dancing around trying to find a hole Saturday than hitting it hard,.

I'm not really disagreeing with any of your breakdown of the 2 backs in this post, except this comment regarding LF7. I don't think these words should ever be written about LF7. Just saying.

It's great having em both. I know we faced some bad defenses when fournette was out but the ability of guice to strike quick helped the teams momentum and really picked us up in Fournettes absence. Ppl saying leonard had bigger holes need to rewatch the so miss and mizzou games on guice long runs those holes were twice as big as the ones fournette ran through Saturday.

Exactly another good point to bring up which these ppl who are typical (lsu fans always think the backup is better types) will ignore is the two backs ypc vs ranked teams. Guice is about 4.5 maybe less after Saturday and Fournettes is about 6ypc maybe more after Saturday. Anyway you slice it fournette is head and shoulders better than guice there's not one thing guice does better.

Claycut.

I love #5 but he doesn't get two of those long TDs. Safe to say he would have have 200yds though!

Yup, arguing over whether our back-up RB would have 237 yards or 280 yards, priceless.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Fournette's greatness. But Guice at RB on these plays and it's the same result

Yea, and Sandy Koufax was just lucky....every time he pitched the other team had a bad day at the plate.

Guice did not run as hard saturday as he had the last two games. The last two games he was much more decisive about hitting the hole. This game he seemed to be looking for the hole.

The best part LF7 only had to truck one dude and the rest of the night those DBs wanted nothing to do with him.

Who cares? Guice performed more than capably as the bellcow when Fournette was out, and we all beheld the power of a fully rested Fournette Saturday night--all while Guice's carries were limited. Both should be well-rested for Bama, and hopefully with a healthy dose of the Ace formation, we will have their defense spread out so they can pick some holes.

Guice been doing a lot of dancing when he gets the ball. Coach orgeron shouldn't have never compared him to Reggie Bush.
