Ro will go down in my personal LSU Hall of Fame for one game: he was a J.Reed fumble after the catch on what would have been a 75 yrd pass, catch & run TD from lighting bama up for 700+ yrds in passing. LSU blew the tide out on the road in one of LSU's best games ever against the tide. LSU ended up with a bit over 600 yrds passing that game.

LSU ended up with 528 passing. The fumble would have gotten you around the 560 mark. Not 700.

Of course its not. But you have people that loudly spout that the offense has been the same since miles got here and the other people just regurgitate the same untrue myth. Crowton loved that pistol and he llved having these huge packages substitutions that were just crazy. There having been noticeable changes to our offense with every OC weve had. From Jimbo,to Crowton, to Cam. What you also have a happening is you have lsu fans that follow lsu very intently but they dont really follow other programs woth the same fervor and they start to recognize tendencies with lsu that they think other programs dont have but they do have them they just dont follow that program as intently. For example the clock mismanagement issue that people love to beat to death on here. Every single program and every single nfl franchise has clock management issues. Lsu doesnt have them more often than other programs its just that when lsu fans see other teams have these issues it isnt a lasting memory because that program isnt close to their heart like lsu is.

90% of the clock management issues went away with Crowton and his over complicated offense. He was actually more to blame for the Ole Miss disaster in 2009 and the near disaster vs. UTk in 2010. One of many reasons Miles had to shove him out. Not a good thing letting your boss and program get humiliated by trying to do too much at the same time.

Nothing earth shattering in what Davey is trying to say here. Making LSU one dimensional and forcing BH to beat you is how to beat our offense. BH can stop that by being more accurate and executing the short to medium range passes. It's all on him and his ability to raise his level of play.

Think Miles shares Davey's view?

The blueprint to stop LSU is easy,” he said. “It’s very easy because all teams are going to do is load the box, stop Leonard [Fournette] and then they’re going to dare the young quarterback that’s not really young anymore, but the unproven quarterback to prove it to them. It’s the blueprint.”

I love Rohan and all....but is this earth-shattering, groundbreaking insight here?

Exactly. He would run in these huge sub packages for no reason.

He's absolutely correct. That's why we lost to Alabama by 14, Arkansas by 17, and Ole Miss by 21 last year

Les was still playing offense like he had Chavis in the press box.

We hired a position coach from the program we were trying to catch to be our coordinator. Terrible move but maybe the only option at that time idk.

Not saying miles shouldn't let Harris open it up more, but miles philosophy works for the most part with a top tier DC.

Our offense was better against all 3 losses in 15 then it was against those same teams in 14. We beat ole miss 10-7 in 2014 then give up 30+ In 2015. Same with bama, 13-13 after regulation in 2014 then give up 30 in 2015. Did Arkansas even punt last season lol?

I'm confident that with aranda, and Harris having another offseason to grow, that we can win big this year even without changing too much offensively. Harris just needs to be more efficient and we will call more passes, while still being a run first offense. Being able to keep a below average ACC teams 5th string QB under the mid 20s in points will help also...
After Syracuse' 5th string QB, Jeremy Johnson, treon Harris, USCe's backup, Western Kentucky, and eastern Michigan all put up in the mid 20s we should have known we were in trouble come November

But my point is that Harris very rarely throws to our top receivers against our top defensive backs in the fall. Maybe a few skeleton drills, but not 11 on 11. Scrimmages are the only times that happens, and for only a handful of plays even then. You simply can't develop a passing game in practice. It has to be honed in games, and last year proved it.

What? Thats exactly where you develop a passing game.
You dont "work on " passing during a game that has consequences.
The coaches call plays that players have proven they can run during practice.

t has to be honed in games, and last year proved it.

Last year didnt prove that. Last year proved that young and inexperienced qbs struggle with prostyle offense.
We tried throwing the ball early against syracuse and eastern michigan but harris was missing his mark. You dont keep throwing with a struggling qb while you have lf in thhe backfield.

Our 2nd team secondary is more talented than both Cuse and EM.

I get that yoid like to see more passes earlier in the season but you dont improve on your ability to play qb during games. You better yourself at qb in the film room, at practice working on footwork to help increase accuracy, and at practice doing situational passing drills.
Its common knowledge that qbs and wr develop their timing together in practice.

Also what you have to also take into consideration is that our scoring defense was bad this season. I think if those earlier games had been decided earier that Miles wouldve called more passing plays but because our defense let 3 of those teams score over 20 points and the 4th team to score 19.
While our defense was giving up 20 to every body we played, our offense was scoring over 33 points a game.

Our defense didnt allow Miles to work on the passing during our earlier games because outside of Auburn the games werent decided until late.

I listen to Matt just about every day and Rohan hit a home run with his statements. He is right and we all know this to be exactly what we need to have from our QB no matter who is behind the center. If we get what he states we have very good shot at the playoffs and NC game. Love me some Rohan. Wish Rohan could play.

In other words, if your not watching what Kiffin and Saban are doing then you won't beat them. You're going to have to pass to run the ball especially in big games.

Rohan like Harris may not have had the greatest coaching.

Do you remember Dinardo using a second rate WR coach as QB Coach while Rich Rodriguez was begging for the job.
None of the three HS All American Quarterbacks, Booty, Davey, and Nall, did shite until Saban and Jimbo came to BR.
Then Booty and Davey were turned into All SEC calibre quarterbacks.
Did you guys watch Hodson on the SEC network vs Texas A&M, his first college game. What a difference.

Damn. Rohan was one of my favorite QBs ever at LSU, maybe he should have just said this over the dinner table with friends.

Why?

He's just being honest.

LSU was 7th in the NCAA last season in yards per completion. They're up there where they need to be with other teams that rely on a strong rushing attack and take shots downfield when safetys begin coming down (Baylor, Oregon, etc)

Essentially Baylor does the same thing out of more of a spread look. They may take a few more shots downfield and may be connecting on more, but they're just running vertical concepts...nothing ground-breaking.

The coaches aren't stupid. The dominant run-game sets up explosive plays in the passing game. Now, not executing is a whole different discussion. But that's not a scheme thing, that's a QB/WR thing.

Here we go again. Diminishing an embarrassing mishap by our head coach multiple times. I'm not a Miles hater at all but the clock issues are magnified because of the way they are handled in game and the timing of them. When your head coach is seen on national television mouthing the words "what down is it" and having no clue what to do is embarrassing and there is no excuse for that. You are honestly the only LSU fan I have talked to defending that bullshite. Yea every team has clock issues I agree with that but the complete dumbfounded look on his face tells it all.

Careful, you'll get a lot of people on here angry mentioning that second name.

But yes, the defense did the offense no favors last season.

Also, I wonder if Rohan Davey watched the arkansas game where LSU came out passing like they were texas tech.

Or that in the BAMA game, it didnt really matter if LSU wanted to run or pass, its pretty much impossible to do much of anything when your opposition's defensive line is taking the line of scrimmage and literally moving it a yard back on every snap.
