Formation question

Is this the first year I can remember seeing a formation from LSU with two running backs flanking the QB in shotgun. Is this a new formation for us or is my memory just that bad?
My thoughts were that it was installed for Bama to allow the back to chip on the ends before going into a pass pattern. It obvious that LSU is trying to convert a run heavy offense to a balanced offense with Mett, is this just growing pains for a new QB and the oline?

not "new" but this is a newer formation for us
