What makes you think he'll work here after failing at Ole Miss?

I'm not familiar with his tenure at OM, so maybe someone can explain what went wrong and why that won't happen now at LSU if he were to become the permanent HC.

His success taking over at USC prolly plays a part in that opinion.

I'm not saying why he would work, I'm going to say why today it might work...

More mature himself, learned much along the way
The culture around that OM team was much "looser" feeding his immaturity
Allowed himself to be more of a friend than coach
Better tools here at LSU today, so if buckled up better chance of success

You're right. Football coaches are the only professionals who don't evolve with time and experience. Ed O is the same guy he was when he was at Ole Miss A DECADE ago.

As a frame of reference, he was HC at Ole Miss when Les won a national championship.

shite changes. Coaches change.

1st off, he became head coach at ole miss because they fired their previous coach and ole miss had been mostly irrelevant for a long time. He took over a bad situation. He recruited his arse off. But, and if you listened to the video someone else posted yesterday of one of his speeches, he had a defensive line coach mentality while being the head coach. But he realized his failures and said if he ever got another chance that he would change what he did wrong. His stint at USC seems to support that.

This is what they should present to Coach O. If you win the next 5 games, that would include all of the following:

Mizz
UF
USM
Miss
Bama

-The job is yours, PERIOD. Because if we win those 5, we are not losing to Ark or A&M.
-If you win all but Bama, but are competitive, the job is still yours. (No shame is losing with only 4 wks of preparation in his system)
-If you lose more than 2, we will have to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Then by Nov 5th they would be in a position to make a decision before the rest of the world fires their coaches to get the right someone in place. If for some reason they don't get the HOME RUN hire they are looking for, I would keep Coach O on a short contract basis until he proves he is the right coach or we find who we are looking for.

Rather than looking at his HC stint at Ole Miss, look at what he did as USC's interim HC after Kiffin got canned following their blowout loss to Arizona State. He took over that team, which was gutted by schollarship restrictions from the Pete Carrol days, and won 6 of their final 8 games, including a 20-17 upset of then #4 Stanford. I could get behind Coach O as LSU's new HC, as long as they hired a solid OC

If coach O goes 6-2 with the schedule we have left I wouldn't complain. IF!!!!! We hire a solid OC. I have always like defensive minded head coaches better.

I think the biggest thing is he learned he can't micromanage when he is a head coach. He has said he recognized that as a mistake and something he won't do again.

Secondly he admitted he cared more about recruiting and building the program than he did about the individual games. Something he won't have to worry about here.

Still don't think he is the best option going forward but he should be a lot better than his tenure at OM showed.

1. LSU IS NOT Ole Miss.

2. Like most professionals, he's grown and refined his skill.

3. He loves LSU. It's more than a job to him. It's a responsibility to the people to win.

4. He's smart enough to hire the best offensive coordinator available.

Why do New England fans think this Belichick guy will work out after failing at Cleveland?

Wasn't one of his knocks at Old Miss that he didn't make good hires?

Of course coaches can learn from their prior experiences, but most great coaches succeed everywhere they've been. Plus, O didn't just fail at Ole Miss, he was horrible: 3-21 in the SEC I believe.

Can't take the risk.

Now, he may end up being a very good head coach one day, but he needs to go to a smaller school to prove it first, then get the call up to an elite school.

Seems like he tried to make good hires. I doubt you have the same checkbook to hire coaches at ole miss as you do LSU

Upon arriving at "Ole Miss", Orgeron attempted to bring USC's passing game coordinator, Lane Kiffin, with him as the new offensive coordinator, but Kiffin opted to stay with the Trojans

Coach O has the best interview of any potential candidates in the next 8 games.

Let's see what he does

Coach O has a good chance at being the next HC of LSU.

It's funny to me that some of our fans didn't consider the possibility that this could happen if we fired Les mid season.
