I'll play Devil's Advocate for a bit and agree with you.

OK...you've got a program that needs to be rebuilt. Do you then hire Ed Orgeron to do it? What in his resume suggests that he can rebuild a program, let along an elite one?

He's had one HC job of his own program, and it was the worst stint in modern SEC history. His to other jobs were as interim coach, stepping into a situation mid season to rah rah up the troops and hold things together for a while.

So...assuming everyone around the program knew we were in for a rebuild, does the hiring of Ed Orgeron make less sense, or more?

Amazing this comparison continues to be brought up. It's. Not. The. Same. At. All.

You can't judge Coach O or any coach for that matter of one previous coaching job.

I had to come back several times to reread this, because I couldn't believe anyone actually typed this out.

So...if you can't judge a person's ability to do a job based on how they did the same job previously...what exactly do you look at when hiring?

Or even better...would we not want to hire a coach with a statistically proven track record of winning championships, or would that previous record be no indication of how likely he would be to repeat that type of job performance?

shite...we may as well have gone to some job fair with a sign that read

"HEAD COACH POSITION AVAILABLE - LSU FOOTBALL: PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE PREFERRED BUT NOT NECESSARY SINCE WE DON'T CARE HOW WELL YOU DID ANYWAY."

THIS^^^^^

How the hell do you evaluate a potential employee without looking at previous performances in like jobs? This is basic hiring 101.

Well you can judge them based on their prior results, unless they say that they've learned from their past mistakes. That wipes the slate clean.

Was just plain stupid to hire Ed O! Period.

Saban took over a dumpster fire at LSU. Coach O took over an LSU team with consistent top 10 recruiting classes. There is a vast difference. Also, Saban had more HC experience than O.

No doubt - 2 more rent a wins to inflate record to 4 - 1 further up in the Top 20 probably.
Then nothing but SEC. And FL, TN, Ark, AtM and OM are bad this year - LSU can beat them all with just slightly above average play and coaching.
AL and AU are the hurdles.
8 - 4 to 10 - 2

What is your evidence that he has learned from his past mistakes? Time? It appears to me that his stint at LSU will determine what he has learned and so far, it appears he has a learning disability.

We have 9 starters players on offense that are Seniors and Juniors. (One red shirt soph. and one freshman that is not rebuilding.) 8 starters on D that are Seniors and Juniors. That is pretty much the average for any college team.

Run your numbers all you want. The reality is we have more freshmen starting or as the immediate backups than in recent memory, and more than most. We have no depth, specifically at OL (having problems there), DL (getting absolutely gassed), and WR (guys not catching passes, making QB look bad on paper).

Can't catch? Then you can't throw, and then you can't run. Even then, OL keeps letting defenders into the backfield, and from the right guard (freshman) spot. No pressure from DL gives QB's all day to throw.

Don't live in denial. At this point, we have to get a year or two to replenish, with quality players, those positions.

Chaisson, Delpit, Paris, Ingram, Stephens, sphomore underperforming receivers, Saahdiq Charles, Vincent Jr., Greedy Williams, Tyler Taylor.

It's all gravy, though. We've got talent. This just isn't a national championship year.
