The BCS probably gets it right more often than the NFL (of course, it has worked for LSU twice). Playoffs don't solve problems, they just create new ones.

So what they're saying are some teams get missed because of the playoff system, yet in the college ALL but 2 teams get looked over for a possible championship.

I'd still like to see a playoff sysytem.

It is possible that two 8-8 teams will make the playoffs while an 11-5 team does not. The mere fact that this is possible as the final weekend arrives tells you the NFL playoff system is broken. It must be replaced by a seeded tournament.

You didn't read the article very well did you?

I'm sorry, nothing settles sports like a playoff. That's why every other division of NCAA Football has one, along with NCAA Men's Baseball, Basketball, Hockey (Frozen Four, anyone?), MLB, NFL, and NBA, etc...

The current BCS system's days are numbered and you know it.

Does anyone really think that a playoff produces the best championship team?

Not always, but I think it settles it more fair than computers and pollsters do.

I don't think that it does- the Giants weren't the best team in their divison much less the NFL last year, and Fresno was the even close to being the best baseball team in the NCAA. They were the hottest team at the end of the season.

The reason that other sports have playoffs is $$$$.

This is the best playoff idea, IMO.

No

For instance this year....could either OU or Florida look Texas in the eye and say "we were better than you"???

No, they couldn't. Especially not OU. The BCS sucks. Give me a playoff.

Exactly...I would MUCH rather argue about which team is number 4, 8, 12, or 16 rather than 1 and 2.

If #16 happens to get in the tourney and win it, well then they deserve it goddamnit!

A playoff system does not determine the best team. It is all about generating a high level of fan interest and hence making tons of money for respective sports. For instance, if MLB wanted to truly determine the best team, they would take the team with the best record at the end of the year from the NL and AL and have them play each other in the World Series. But watching one round of playoffs isn't as fun as watching 3 rounds and doesn't make nearly as much money. However, college football is different in that its regular season is very exciting from start to finish, so it already has the high level of fan interest. So basically if you want an exciting playoff system, which by the way would dilute the regular season, then you should want a playoff system. But if you want to truly to determine the best team at the end of the year, you should want the BCS, or something similar to it.

That number must be greater than however long ESPN got the new contract for.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its 4 years??

In how many years has the BCS determined, unquestionably, the best team in the land?

Not too many Mr. Beckwith...not too many.

I believe that the % is higher than the NFL championship.

Lol, every year except for maybe 03 and 04. Way more than the NFL has.
