Edit: I was joking about the rust! Jeez!

It's hard for me to tell exactly what is new and what is already in place based on your picture. Obviously that little jut out in your first picture is new but is that it?

Ten years after its grand-opening, the LSU Football Operations Building will be expanded and updated in 2016. The project will be funded by private donations to Tiger Athletic Foundation through the LSU Football Building Fund and will include expansions and updates to the weight room, training room, team locker room, coaches' offices and meeting rooms. The LSU Football Operations Building is home not only to the LSU Football staff and operations but also a weight room that is utilized by as many as 400 student-athletes at LSU. To better accommodate the needs of our student-athletes the project also includes a major expansion of space for cardio training. The new expansion, which calls for an additional 5,000 square feet of training space, will allow multiple sports to train and ulimately compete for championships.

That steel looks perfectly fine. That little superficial rust is nothing to be concerned about. Quite normal.

Weathered steel. The rust patina prevents further corrosion. Has something like 100 year corrosion resistance. I misspoke about the galvanization. It's been a while since I've had to us the knowledge

the beams are galvanized so what's rusting is actually the layer of zinc and not the steel itself. This galvanization prevents the steel from corroding. All common practice in construction. At least that's what I remember from my CM classes
Those beams dont look galvanized. Why would they galvanize structural steel?
