There isn't a football stadium in college football with as much mystique/weirdness when you add it all up. Not even close. Other fans will defend their stadiums, rightfully. But when you take every college stadium at its very best, Tiger Stadium stands alone.
I'm biased, but that doesn't make me wrong.

That appears to have been produced in 2004. Tiger Stadium was really at its zenith in the period 2000-2011. It was majestic and intimidating, a dazzling homage to college football and the wild joys of Louisiana. There were so many outstanding crowd performances during that era, so many unrivaled atmospheres: 2000 TENN, 2000 MSU, 2000 BAMA, 2001 AU, 2003 UGA, 2007 VT, 2007 FlORIDA, and several other lesser remembered but no less raucous games like SC 2002. It pains me to see what has become of the stadium in the last half decade, something truly beautiful and unique systematically destroyed by greed, sterile corporations, television, apathy, subpar coaching, inept administration, plodding offense, and - more than anything - the inexplicable laziness and apathy of a once rabid fanbase. Depressing.
On a tangential note, I vividly recall the 2004 Oregon State game they feature in the piece. They raised the national championship flag before kickoff. A torrential downpour baptized the crowd. JRock made his triumphant debut. And of course, the woes of Cerna.

Going to Tiger Stadium as a kid, I remember the 80's as being extremely rowdy.
STTDB is tame compared to cups of ice and Coke flying through the air after tds.
ETA: just thinking: now the students celebrate with vulgarities. They used to celebrate with concussions.

I remember 1996 vs Kentucky in particular—we won 41-14. Kentucky was driving in the last minutes and a full Stadium was on their feet screaming not to let them score 20.

God, I miss painting up and sitting on the front row during LSU home games! Being on the front row of the student section gave us the opportunity to berate opposing players!
Heat or rain, our painted group in Purple and Gold were there to cheer for our Tigers!

Even in the midst of the Curly Hallman disaster, we took my former brother-in-law, a Nebraska fan, to the Georgia game in 1990 because he wanted to experience Tiger Stadium. We won 18-13 and you would have thought we won the SEC, with the fans chanting a deafening "LSU, LSU!" as they were exiting down the ramps. He was blown away.
This was on the heels of a 4 win season, mind you, on our way to a juggernaut 5 wins that year.

I was there for that game as I have been for many other great ones! I think winning a couple national championships has its advantages and disadvantages. Passionate Tigers fans who waited for years for another NC (x2. )However i think the passion " overall" faded out a Little after those 2 NC'S. Our passion is still unbelievable, but there is something missing, the roar of the stadium is not as consistent as it once was, though it is still awesome at times. I'm not trying to be negative, becuz there is still no place like Tigah stadium in my mind and heart. Maybe older LSU Fans can comment on this.

You have no clue as to what you’re talking about. Yes as far as top 20 teams, but as far as the stadium and what happened in other time periods, you are dead wrong. Been attending games since the 60’s and each decade had its moments. But from ‘69-‘72, it is hard to beat. In 70 we lost 3 games by a total of 10 points which included a Bowl game.
That stadium was deafening in 69.
I was there for Carlos Carson killing people. That ‘79 SC game was the loudest I’ve experienced in all of sports. Nothing ever came close including UF games in 1997 and 2007. Not close. Why? Because the entire game and afterwards was like “the drive” in 2007.
In 82 the orange game” was incredible as MANY MANY others. We threw sugar cubes, Oranges, concessions, you name it.
The ‘69 team lost the 1 game to Ole Miss by 3 points ruined our Cotton Bowl chance because we got SCREWED by the media. Best overall defense IMO for a 4 year period. Had no offense. Sound familiar?
