Favorite LSU football season

2011
I know we didn't win it all that year, but we absolutely destroyed Oregon, West Virginia, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida and beat the "unbeatable" Alabama team in their house. Yes it sucked that we didn't show up in the BCS game but I've never had so much fun watching those routes week in and week out. And it was much easier on the heart.
2003 is my second favorite.

I'm going to go with 2007.
ETA: Every game was pretty exciting.. Opening at Moo State and then watching Keiland's calves run through Va tech. The fake FG vs USC and two 3OT games, the pick 6 by Zenon to win the SEC and it all culminating with the BCS championship. Couldn't ask for much more. Damn.

If it wasn't 03 you are probably pretty young.

i would say 2011, but....nevermind
2003 for sure.
That defense
2003 for sure.
That defense

2003. I still was not convinced we were elite after decades of disappointment, especially after the Florida loss. Just seeing beforehand that the Tigers would play for the NC seemed surreal. And then to thump the "best college team ever" - it'll be hard to top that for me.

You bring up a great point about 2011, but unfortunately I can't agree with you due to that BCS game. I truly think that was probably the worst loss in the history of LSU football. Yes, I know in the 90s, we suffered terrible losses like 58-3 against Florida, but much wasn't expected of the LSU team then. 2011 was arguably LSU football's best team ever, and there are no words to describe how much we SUCKED in that game.
Therefore, I guess I have to go with '03. We played the top two hesiman candidates and owned both of them. That was one of the best defenses in the history of modern football. Plus, winning the Natty isn't so bad either.

2003 - first NC since 1958. Best defense I've ever seen. Solid offense. All around greatest LSU team ever.

Man that's tough. If we're talking regular season only, it's 2011 and nothing else even comes close. Like you said - LSU dominated people like never before, and did it all season. Unfortunately it ended with a giant mouthful of a shite sandwich that was so putrid it destroyed how amazing the regular season was.
Second (or first when taking into account the entire season) would easily be 2003. That UGA game in Tiger Stadium was a watershed moment for Tiger football, and was the first real opportunity in a long, long time for LSU to be considered one of the "elite" of college football. Being at that game was something I'll never forget. Despite the loss to UF, that season was fantastic and ended with the Tigers' first BCS title. Hard to beat 2003 when considering the entire season.

I'm old so have to do five
in no particular order:
2011- most amazing defense I've ever seen
1983- the first "great" LSU team if my life that I can remember seeing. Monster d as well, gets overlooked because of record
1987- I still think this team might have been the best in the nation. Don't recall any weakness
2003- may have been the best LSU team ever
2007- that team wouldn't quit. Weren't perfect but maybe the most competitive LSU team
Extra credit- I've read enough about the 58 team to feel like I watched them play lol

Important that you note "Favorite" and not the most successful. My favorite was 1995. Not because of any huge success, but because it was my first as a student and I remember how crazy/happy we were for beating Auburn in the SEC opener. The place went nuts and we charged the field for what would now be considered a common win.

2011 was an extremely fun group to watch on defense.
2003 was as an efficient group who wore out teams.
2007 was a nail biter every weekend.

+1 for 2001. That was an awesome turnaround season with a sweet ending.
Gaye!
but seriously, as we all know, it was the beginning of greatness.

I'm w/the OP. 2011 was incredible. TM7 and all his ballin, beating big time teams over and over, kicker's freakin shushing the Alabama crowd.....Les was in quintessential form.
Man, e'rey Sairday was awesome in 2011.
Edit: PS...I'm old, and 2011 was better than 03/07.
