Does LSU offensive performance in Texas Bowl end up hurting the Tigers?

LSU roughed up a Big 12 defense---a'hem, the 126th (of 127 FBS teams) ranked total defense--the VERY WORST Big 12 defense and almost VERY WORST in all of FBS football.

I was at the game. Afterward and into following week, I found myself damned good about LSU offense -- but as dust settled, wondering if me (and others) are swimming in false perception, including LSU decision makers.

Will Texas Bowl performance prevent tough decisions / actions that need to be made for an improved LSU offense in 2016?

Not at all, you exploit the weakness of the team you play. TT is god awful against the run...

What helped the tiger offense was Texas Tech! They are horrible and made us look great. We really need some changes on Offense but that won't happen.

We gained nothing but a false sense of security and hope. I see right through the stats and score. Still much work to do with no offensive changes coming.

We ran all over them, but while the game was still in doubt there were some amazingly terrible calls. Palmer and Pollack were openly questioning our play calling for the first 3 quarters. 3 and 2 Harris rolls left making him less of a double threat throwing across body, etc.

I saw that. too. TT is one of those teams that our superior athletes dominate.

We put up 600+ yards of offense against South Carolina before shitting the bed this season.

I think more people are excited for next season due to the hiring of Aranda, not because our offense supposedly "turned the corner" against the worst defense we faced this year.

I thought TT tried very hard. They seemed to tackle better (form wise) early on. But LF is just too much.

I am not saying the perception would have been better if it was a close game.

I am suggesting that LSU offense halo effect after TT beat-down might hurt LSU in the long-run.

But, I hope not -- and LSU makes tough and right decisions about its offense to make it better.

We were a matchup nightmare for Texas Tech.

That game tells absolutely zero about anything. It was nice win vs a bad defense in a bad bowl.

But, your concerns are legit. Les will look at that victory as validation of his offensive philosophy and nothing will change.

Next year, no matter how good we may be defensively, will end up a lot like this one. Middle of the pack in the west and end the season in a no name bowl game. Wash and repeat until Les is gone.

LSU was able to run against a weaker team. Harris still can't hit a 10-15 yard pass. So it was much of the same.

I think this.

We were playing TT in the first half when BH couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if he was inside said barn. We were still playing TT later when he got rolling.
It was nice to see him actually IMPROVE as the game went along. We had ZERO delay of game penalties, when typically we'd have one or two and sometimes even coming out of time outs. I think having Cam on the sideline (at Harris' request) was helpful.

The play calling was horrible. Sometimes I think they call plays by pulling plays out of a hat.

There definitely seems to be no rhyme or reason to the plays called.

Kind of similar to the SECCG in 2011 vs Georgia. Zero offensive production in the 1st half. Could hand been down a lot more if not for some god D and some Georgia mishaps. And then the honey badger and a blowout core gave the false pretense that's things were all OK. No changes made going into the most important game of the program's history. LSU is way different today with a win on 1/9/12.

There is no question our superior players won out in the second half.
With that said, there is no doubt in my mind at least, that Les Miles knows he must change his philosophy with his offense.
I think starting with Cam on the sidelines was huge, and we have all seen from successes with Alabama having Lane Kiffin and Kirby Smart on the field has worked very well.
I believe LSU making a good decision to act quickly in hiring Dave Aranda was huge, and though it will show improvements going into next year, it will be vastly improved with that system he uses in 2-3 years with the scheme he uses.
As for me, I am looking at how we move forward with this team in improving its success in the air, and how our offense can help our defense by keeping them off the field.
Bottom line, what has transpired since the Bowl game, Les and LSU are doing what needs to be done from here moving into next year IMO.

I think that we are handcuffed by the staffs' lack of confidence in our passing game. Harris has all of the tools. But until he calms down and allows the game come to him, our coaching staff will continue to attempt to mask our inability to effectively and consistently throw and catch the ball.

I feel like Harris and our offense showed progress. Clearly as previously stated by others, Cam on the sideline is imperative at this point. The O looked like they knew what the play call was. As sad as that sounds, this was progress.

There were some nice short touch passes against TT that I hadn't seen in too long. The missed throws in the middle of the field look to me like he's just a little overly excited and the ball is sailing on him.

I believe Harris can do it. Once Harris believes and truly take the reins, the offense is going to take off.

Many fans have a perception/concern that LSU will not change its offense. Those feel Coach Miles/Cameron will not make changes. I see it as they try to call what will work. Yes, Fournette off tackle with a stacked box is frustrating, but less so than Harris missing a wide open receiver on a 10-15 pass. My proof? Better passing and variety Mett's last year.

Although stubborn, Miles is not stupid. Hopefully, Harris improves enough to allow a greater variance in play calling. I'm not putting all on Harris-- of course he needs to be "coached" up. But I am optimistic about the future.
