We just won the MNC and had RP as our QB. What were the realistic expectations going into the 2008 season?

How did they change once RP was kicked off the team?

We knew we had a lot to replace but the 8-5 season we got definitely underwhelmed.

I'd say expectations were 10-3

11-2 was thrown around a lot. Made sense given that the first three years of Miles's tenure we went 11-2 (or 12-2). No one thought the defense would be that bad or that RP would be kicked off the team/we'd set a record for pick 6's

We had lost a lot of talent but we were still pretty stacked I expected us to be 10-3 (losing to Florida, Georgia, and Alabama) with a bowl win.

After RP got kicked off the team I wasn't sure at all as I'd never seen Lee or Hatch play.

I remember expecting a lot of RP, but that sure went south quick. We still had high hopes, because we were the defending champs...and the fact that les had never lost more than 2 games in a season, definitely game us hope.

It was a strange year...that's for sure.

RP was off the team and Hatch was the QB

expectations should have been quite low

Was this the Malveto year?

The first sign of Miles nepotism.

At this point...don't know and damn sure don't care since it is meaningless.

Yeah, that seems to be a bit of revisionist history on the poster's part. Alabama had just finished a 6-6 season in 2007. NO ONE expected them to go undefeated in 2008. UGA was ranked #1 to start the year, but LSU was getting them at home. Everyone knew the game at Florida was going to be tough. Still, I think most people felt 10-2 was doable with the only losses being to Auburn and UF on the road. Miles had just gone 10-1, 10-2, 10-2 (reg season). 5 loses wasn't expected.

No one expected the defense to completely fall off a cliff with the loss of Pelini, which was really the biggest reason LSU regressed to 8-5 (even with the INTs, Lee was able to put up points). That season changed Les forever. He completely neutered the offense thereafter with the #1 goal being to avoid the risk of turnovers at all costs.

I would say 9-3 with a decent bowl game, and win the bowl. If only RP could have not been an idiot...

Considering that we'd lost a lot of talent at key positions and that Alabama took it to us in 2007 I expected us to lose to Alabama that year.
