I've been pretty tough on Ed this week rightly so but now trying (for my own sanity if nothing else) to find something positive to grad hold of.

Here's some examples off the top of my head:
- tOSU lost early to unranked VaTech in '14 and went on to win it all
- Bama lost ugly to OM in '15 and won it all
- We looked pretty inept vs UF in '03 in game #6 and won it all.
- UF got blown out by Tenn 3-45 in '90 and only lost to FSU afterwards.
- In '77 Bama lost early to unranked Nebraska when their QB fired 5 ints and then had a good year.

Others?

Yeah, I can see what LSU's coach has in common with those guys.

SCLSU mud dogs. Started the season with a loss and even laid an egg in the first half of the Bourbon Bowl and came back to win the game.

That's more than Orgeron's career wins. Not counting interim stints obviously.

I can make a list of very unsuccessful coaches who were ranked early and lost badly. Then went on to have terrible seasons too.

There seems to be a large degree of difference in some of these eggs.

2007 Virginia Tech got destroyed at LSU and went on to finish 11-2 in the regular season.

2010 Va Tech lost their first 2 games including one to James Madison. Went undefeated afterwards, won the ACC.

So how'd all these great coaches with better talent lose so ugly?

My guess is fans of those teams felt just as doomed afterwards as we do right now.

Make no mistake, Ed has a lot to prove. I don't subscribe to the no talent, no depth, no experience, etc excuses. He needs to be a football coach and get it done.

Yeah the Saban or even Dabo comparisons to O to justify their pro-O position is kinda short-sided.

I'm just trying to stay sane!

You do this by expecting a lackluster year due to recent performances and being pleasantly surprised if the team plays better down the stretch.

You do the opposite of this when you start looking for nearly impossible ways for LSU to compete for any sort of title this year.

Michigan skull drug Penn State last year 49-10, and Penn State went on to win the Big Ten.
