If we made it through last year then we are fine in 2017. I guess folks around here panic first before thinking lol. Defense is going to be really good this year and I mean really good.

The OL is probably getting the best work any team can possibly get with the front seven we have. The BYU front will seem like they are in slow motion after blocking our Bucks for months. Should be a great game. I would take LSU to cover in this one. Especially if most are picking BYU and points.

We have a lot of depth at DE, and O said, today, that he can rotate guys over from DE to NT, and that depth at NT is not a concern.

Faith in coordinators?? What does that have to do with depth. So what about injuries? Coordinators can prevent injuries.

Did you ever play football? Do you know anything about coordinators and what they do? They 'coordinate', detective. They will rotate guys, shift guys around, and plug players in spots to maximize potential and strengthen the lines. Why do you think people are so excited about the new coordinators?
Pussy arse negative fans who aren't happy unless they are bitching about shite they have no control over (especially if they never played the game) are garbage and an embarrassment to the sport.

Rainman will make adjustments to the gameplan when and where he sees fit. Do not question rainman, he will put our best possible players in the best possible position to be an effective defense against the opposing offense. This is how rainman wins games and why he's the best dc in the business. If rainman wants 8 fishticks, cheese puffs, orange soda, and tapioca pudding for dinner...you get him what he wants, whether it's pouring down raining or not. If you only get 4 fishticks, you cut the motherfrickers in half with a credit card to where it looks like 8. Do not frick with him, or his defense.

Aranda has multiple formations... we're not going to be 3-4 all the time... he plays to the defense strengths against offense weakness

How many times do we have to go over Aranda's scheme before people stop posting stupid shite like this?

Lacouture cannot play NT in a 3-4

Yes he can, it's a one gap 3-4. Not much of a difference from a one gap 4-3. That's a big reason why Aranda has flexibility with his schemes.

NG depth is a valid concern. Gilmore is an average NG and we are starting 2 new ILBers. Offense has had a lot of success running up the middle the last 2 scrimmages.
Everyone has already named White an all American, but truth is there will be a significant dropoff from last year.

The beauty of a 3-4 is that it is so flexible and unpredictable. Although a big bruiser NT is huge in that formation, you can adjust schemes and personnel as the game goes on.

The fact that the rest of the defense is very strong and deep makes a huge impact on this. And it's not like we are weak at NT, we just aren't going to be dominant there for four qtrs. The other six guys in that front seven are going to be elite though.

In other words, you worry too much.

Stop. It's not. It wasn't last season and it won't be this season. They run one-gap 4-3 looks sometimes with the nose shaded to one shoulder of the center and everyone shifted but it still remains a two-gap 3-4 scheme.

Only if injuries arise. Gilmore and Alexander make a great 1-2 punch and we have very big DEs that can slide over if needed.

Disagree. He greatly improved last season and was dominant towards the end of the season at times. He's no Michael Brockers but I can see him out on a Bennie Logan type year.

Both have significant playing time and are being coached by the best DC in America. Everyone doubted Riley last year as well.

I would like to see proof of this or anecdotal evidence. No one knows for sure unless they were there or have sources.

And he very well could be

Strongly disagree. The talent is there and it's year two under Aranda. If there's any drop off it'll only be early and won't last long. This defense will end up being better than last year's with all of Aranda's bells and whistles in place.

Then Aranda will play more 4-3 and limit the reps at 3-4. Aranda is a pretty intelligent guy and will adjust to his available talent.

Ed Alexander has minor injuries. He is out of shape because of his injuries. He will play at least 25% of the plays in game one, and he'll be splitting time by game four. If one of our nose tackles ACTUALLY becomes unavailable we'll scoot LaCouture over there. Quit being such a chicken little.
