Not as sharp as the first game, but he really took some shots. I liked all of them except for the one to Chark in quadruple coverage. Two guys underneath that were very open. I love the result though. All and all, a solid outing.

Lol.

Saw that he made a comment that he left some off on those deep throws too.

Still can't get over the quadruple coverage catch by Chark

Heck of a move by Chark. He's been impressive thus far.

Etling looks great when he has a clean pocket but gives up on plays when he is pressured. I'm not sure if he doesn't have confidence in his arm while scrambling or if his WR aren't helping him but he struggles on pressure plays. That being said, he doesn't take sacks and doesn't force the ball which is all you can ask for. He is the prototypical game manager right now. The million dollar question is, will Canada continue to open up the offense and allow him become more of a offensive threat?

Major concern for Etling: Offensive Line struggled at times with a four man front or picking up the delayed blitzer. Hopefully the OL play cleans up for the MSU game.

O-line needs to improve as the season goes on. I know theres some new guys so it might be a work in progress. But the way they're playing so far isn't gonna cut it in SEC play.

Also, Etling needs to stay a little more poised in the pocket. I've starter to wonder if Canada has been on his arse in practice about not taking sacks and making sure to throw the ball away. Because it seems like Danny isn't hesitating to do so. A few times when maybe he didn't need to.

Now Will Clapp does get knocked back a good bit, which is probably what Etling reacted to. I'm not sure if it was enough to abandon the play or if Clapp would have been able to recover his protection. The defender is out of frame but it sure looks like Chark got wide open on a slant (though it looks like his only reads were to JD Moore or the WR at the top...can't make out his jersey number)

Guice does his job here and takes out his guy, leaving Etling with a pretty clean pocket to step into. Etling felt the pressure though and bailed out and threw the ball away.

Maybe a little nitpicky. Throwing the ball away, staying alive and not taking sacks aren't bad habits. But you also don't want him to get to bail happy the moment he feels any pressure. He's not always going to have the cleanest pocket but often times enough to hang in there and make a throw.

Etling was correct here. This is called "quick" game. The QB makes a presnap read and determines which side of the field he will work. Its one step then throw. If there's nothing there on that one step he has to get out. If there were 5-step drop (or 3 step from from under center, he "might" be able to look back side (usually not). In quick game, its 1. one step, if nothing 2. get out, or 3. throw the ball away.

I would rather see Guice stand up and block here. This "cut" didnt really clear the defender, who was clearly able to bounce back up. Etling might have been a little early on that (corner route might having been coming open). Video does not show the safety. And you are right, Canada gets very hot when they take a sack.

On that 3rd play he definitely should have stepped up in the pocket and hit Sullivan for a 5-6 yard gain. Looks like All 3 of his receivers were on the right side of that play so prolly explains why he got impatient and bailed out

A couple other ones I forgot to include.

Etling does step up into the pocket here. You'd of course like to see a better throw with Chark being so wide open but he did well to get the throw off with a guy bearing down on him.

David Ducre and Drake Davis were wide open because Chark had 4 guys chasing him before Etling even threw the ball. Both those guys would have had big gains as well. Chark proably wasn't the ideal target there

Pretty sure he was being pressured both times he overthrew Chark. I can understand it, but those are plays you need to make in SEC play.

Not a very good game for Etling

He got bailed out several times and missed several easy throws

I hope he puts some stank on those out and flag routes in conference play. Those passes hung up there forever

sidenote: he was criticized for having several jump balls when people used to be on here begging for us to throw the deep ball and let our "elite athletes" make a play. I was fine with those decisions, can't please everybody

throwing "jump balls" to single coverage is one thing

throwing "jump balls" into double and triple coverage is another
