LSU junior quarterback Danny Etling was recruited by new offensive coordinator Matt Canada out of high school and is excited to get to work with him after his teammates are done with the Citrus Bowl.SCOUT.COM|BY BILLY EMBODY

Could not read the entire article on a Paid Site. If anyone is a Premium Member they can read the article. I would think if Etling was recruited by Canada he must be the type of QB he is looking for to run his Offense?

Etling will surprise people next year. He may lack arm strength but it's been a while since I've seen a QB with his poise, toughness, pocket awareness, and decent mobility.

yeah he has the mind for it.

If Etling is the guy then Canada will know how to maximize his skills, and give him throws he can make.

I haven't been blown away by Peterman's pure arm talent in any Pitt highlights, and i woudl stab someone for an LSU QB to have his stats this year.

Canada has run both a pro-style offense and dual-threat offense, so sure, Etling fits in, regardless of what you classify Etling as

I hope every QB gets a fair chance and we don't make the mistake of just going with the fan favorite.

"fan favorite": Whoever the current backup QB happens to be at any given moment.

Coaches dont care who the "fan favorite" is. I just hope Canada ignores any existing coach preferences, and starts with a blank slate approach, making it a true open competition.

Many times reps get pre-determined before practice begins. In a 20 play practice period it might look like:

1st QB - 8 plays
2nd QB - 6 plays
3rd QB - 3 plays
4th QB - 2 plays
5th QB - 1 play

QBs 3-5 never really get evaluated. Last spring McMillan was that guy taken 3 plays a period. The spring was really about Etling and Harris. I hope that Canada takes a different approach.

Yes, but he can't run fast enough and doesn't have enough "Swag" for many in the Diaper Brigade on here that have never actually played a down of organized football in their lives...........

I mean if Peter Dyakowski can carve out such a long career in Canada I'm sure Etling can too

Can't believe you thought you were so clever using your euphemisms for 'black' that you didn't think of saying he wasn't 'Canadian' enough. Double pun!

It's OK. You can say it: a quick-thinking QB.

I don't. If he does then you're looking at Brandon Harris as your starting qb for the 2017 season. In a practice setting he probably looks like a first round draft pick. But everybody knows when the lights come on he just can't handle it.

I'd be happy with Etling starting next year and Brennan/Narcisse taking over from there. If Lindsey Scott is good enough he can get looked at for the 2018 season as well.

I respect that. But I dont won't to discount what Canada will get from his chosen guy. I dont won't to presume to know what BH might be capable of in a system that might be more tailored twds his skills set. Same is true for all of the QBs.

I dont prefer anyone. But if Canada concludes that BH is the better guy, then he's the better guy. Brennan/Narcisse should find Scott/McMillan getting more than just "a look". The reality of college football a waits them both.

Canada knew who his quarterback was going to be before he ever signed his contract. That is his job.

He was not hired to start over from scratch and be fair. He was hired to win.

The word "fair" is never once used in the Constitution.

Harris is by far more talented. Better arm, better running ability. If Canada can get him making good decisions, honestly, he could be really good. Etling is limited. He is smart but not really athletic. I'm hoping Canada turns Harris into something more than Etling into something because his ceiling is so low.
