Probably been covered before here. My impressions:

Red Grange as number 1 is exactly correct. He legitimized the game as a national pastime.

Charles Woodson at number 11 is HORRIBLY overrated and cheapens the whole list. He doesn't belong in the list at all, especially when he didn't even deserve the Heisman over Peyton Manning. Neon Deion Sanders was a more feared defensive back.

I think Hugh Green was included just to get a defensive guy in there. Yes, he was a terrific player, but where is Tommie Frazier? Ted Hendricks would have been another good choice on defense.

The most egregious omission is OJ Simpson, who should be at about number 7. He was phenomenal, feared, marquee, and dominated the headlines for two seasons.

I agree about Woodson.

I think OJ was left of because now if his name is brought up, he's thought of as a criminal. He already was after the murders, but now especially with those new charges.

Three people on the list shouldn't be on the top 25 all time:

1. Charles Woodson
2. Reggie Bush
3 John Elway

Not on the list and should be:

1. Frank Hinkey "Even his on teammates feared him"
2. O.J. Simpson
3. Don Hutson

Border line players on the list:
1. Hugh Green
2. Jim Brown
3. Charlie Trippi

I could name near 20 other players on the same skill level or better with those three:

1. Doc Blanchard
2. Gaynell Tinsley (you should see all the blocked punts over 3 years)
etc..

Disagree!! Woodson had a better year and Mich would not have been close to a NC without him!!!!

glad to see someone else agrees with me. He was a great threat, but nowhere near the top 25 all time.

George Gipp is another one that should NOT be in there. I have nothing against honoring the old-timers, but the only reason he's in there in because of Knute Rockne's famous "win one for the Gipper" speech.

Hugh Green - 1980 Heisman runner-up to George Rogers. For a DE/LB that's pretty damned good. He belongs.

If Cecil would not have been a wacko he may have ended up on one of these list someday, damn shame how he turned out.

VY should not be #10, he had one, i repeat one great season, his others were mediocre at best. Reggie had a better overall career than VY.

He wasn't even the best CB in college football that year. . .that would be Dre Bly. Plus, who knows what would have happened if Michigan wasn't able to avoid playing Nebraska that year. This list should be based on the individual performance of the player. . .by that standards Woodson's position is debatable at best.

right. he wasn't even the best pure RB on his own team.

If Tommy Frazier is not on the list, then it is a complete joke.

But Herschel is like Voltron with his mutliple personalities. Each one of them is very good, but not the best. When they all come together he might be best, and i'm sure he has some pretty cool animo music in the background when this happens....but i don't think it's fair to compare him to people with only one personality.

No offense, but how freaking old are you? Jim Brown was an unbelievable football player. To say he doesn't belong on the list is ludicrous. Hugh Green was a DE that opposing offenses schemed around. There aren't too many of those in the history of college football.

To me, Archie Griffin is low at 21. The only two time Heisman winner belongs in the top 10.

Way too much old school on that list.

And I think Emmett Smith was a Top 5 back all time in college.
