For the last 8 months all they have done is hype Simmons going so far as to have a Ben-Cam during one game.

Today on their site (it is live right now) their headline for announcing their all-american teams is "Simmons misses our first-team All-American cut." So let me get this straight you build up a kid for 8 months and then instead of providing some headline time for kids you have put on your first team you have a negative headline on Simmons.

The process of tearing him down has begun. What a crappy headline by ESPN?

The headline you reference is the definition of "making the news."

if they went strictly off numbers alone, there's no way he shouldn't be on the first team.

They should also be ashamed of the bashing they did of the "25 is coming" marketing campaign, only to have him on the front page all year, sometimes for no reason at all.

Exactly. LSU markets their superstar freshman that they are giving a scholarship and expending a bunch of resources on.--HEY LSU! SHAME ON YOU! STOP EXPLOITING THE KID!

ESPN exploits him for headlines, pageviews, radio and TV ratings all year as a star and then tears him down for headlines, pageviews, radio and TV ratings--JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY!

Why hype Simmons, we aren't going to the tournament so he has no further value to ESPN as a drawing card.

Welcome to the blame somebody else generation.

It's ESPN's fault that Simmons didn't live up to expectations.

Whatever... The dude wasn't close to 1st team... He had real good stats against a weak conference... YES ESPN hyped him all year... At the start it was with good reason.. But stats are just a part of the game...

Not one person is asserting this. The crux of the issue is that ESPN builds up player to demi-god levels and then does everything in their power to tear down that image. Why would someone not being on a list or all-american team ever be a headline? Because ESPN made it so with their ridiculous attention to Simmons. They make their own news and idiots eat it up. It's hilariously shitty journalism.

...he averaged 20 12 and 5

Which one of those stats isn't "living up to expectations"?

Not his fault we have a 8 year old rec league coach as our coach.

Any thought that they objectively cover sports can be dispelled by IndyCar racing coverage, among other things.

When an IndyCar race is on the ABC networks, ESPN will cover the results on Sports Center. If the race is on the NBC channels, it's like it didn't happen as far as ESPN is concerned.

Yup.. But that's part of the BIZ they do this all the time with any other network.....The scroll at the bottom of the screen shows who plays who and where but it will say what network it will be on as long as its an ESPN network....
