It seems to have gotten worse. He's wearing a sleeve on his elbow this year for some reason.

he put 2 or 3 good bats on balls. Just didn't find a hole. It happens, its baseball. Nothing to worry about.

Beau Jordan was hitless for like 30 at bats last year IIRC.

Yeah if he has a nagging injury that would explain the slump as well. Which if true props to the kid for playing through it but if it's affecting his abilities at some point PM would have to make a decision based on what's best for the team.

He'll be given a much longer leash esp if we find that real crushing DH along with the two freshman remaining good on offense, he's proved himself valuable in center and all of last year. He'll be given a long leash, I would say all of the pre SEC and into the first half of SEC or until he proves to hinder the lineup. If anything get him some bunts and let him walk or battle his way on. They will probably change his approach if anything. Hope he picks it up we could use him and Pap. GT

I think he has different leashes for different players. And yes, he is not opposed to yanking a player, or, realigning the order. At this point, that may be the best or Antoine.

I still think it is way too early to panic on the kid. I would like to think he is mind screwing himself and will snap out of the early slump and return to his last year form.

I can remember 1, the hard grounder to 3B that caused the error. Anything he hit in the air was pretty weak. And his grounders to the opposite side weren't hit very hard besides the one I mentioned. I think the second hardest he hit into a double play toward the SS. The coaches are definitely trying to keep his confidence up by telling him things like this. But over an 8 month period, he's hitting something like 0.150.

And let's not pretend that players like Fraley don't exist... who hit very poorly when not playing in live competitive games.

I didn't catch every single one of his at bats over the 3 games but the only hard hit one i saw was the error on the 3rd baseman. I believe that was his last at bat of the weekend so maybe he can take a little bit of confidence into the midweek.

Had that ball been in the hole it would have gotten through for sure.

I agree with all of this.

And although I'd like to see him switch spots with Smith, I could see PM keeping Smith at the bottom. He seemed to really like Freeman there last year; someone who's a tough out at the bottom and is often on base for the top of the order.

It was.

Had it been down the line, he would have easily been on 2B.

CPM likes to bat freshman and new guys at the bottoms of the lineup early on to get them some extra fastballs and to allow them to slowly get the feel for playing at LSU. He also likes a speedy lead off type guy at 9th. Duplantis will end up there before he is outright benched.

He also did his job with hitting a deep ground ball between the 4 hole to score Freeman.

I know none of y'all are bashing him, but c'mon, let him get relaxed. Better to slump now then in the SECT

ETA: Have to look at what the kid did in those at bats, not just the 0-12 marking.

Not gonna lie, this might be my favorite "big stick" move so far. I'm trying to think of all the ones they've had recently.

Crazy
Big "stick"

I know there are more but I'm at a loss.

It's not like he struck out 12 times.
He put the ball in play several times.
He will be fine and I don't think LSU has a better CF so he has to be there for defense.

Look at Bregman of the Astros last season. Started his career at something like 1-38. Once he got out the slump he hit over .350 for the remainder of the season.

No one has mentioned that he is injured. Its not just a baseball slump, the kid has a injured arm and its been effecting his play mental and physical since the summer. Great players dont just "slump" for 6 months for no reason. Its more than going 0-12 to start the season. The reason he wears the compression sleeve is because the elbow is fricked. He is of zero use if he cant hit and cant throw. I think first order of business is to swap him with Smith. Let him hit at the bottom in midweek games and hope he gets a couple hits to break the ice.
