He will be the only upperclassman in the DT rotation(I think), and 1 of only 2 upperclassmen in the entire DL rotation(again, I think Pep is the only other one). He has the experience, but more importantly, the talent to be a dominating force next year and take some of the pressure off the younger DTs and DEs. It is imperative that comes in next year in much better shape.

I thought he would be our defensive MVP this year, but he was too fat to really stay on the field very long, so I think he had a disappointing season. We need sacks from him on 3rd down. We need TFLs from him to put the opposition in 2nd and 3rd and longs. He really needs to take this offseason very seriously. LSU's defense--but more importantly to him, his bank account-- greatly depend on it.

Absolutely. I think the DL will be more talented and Nevis is the key. If steps up his game to an elite level, the line will go from good to great.

ehh, don't expect him to have a Glenn Dorsey year or anything. Montgomery, Pep, Edwards and Hicks need to provide some help on the line too

Watch out for the Brockers kid at DE. He's 6'6"/285 lbs. Had a really good fall camp last season but didn't see much game action, if any, b/c I think our staff was worried he might put too much pressure on the quarterback.

he's more than capable of having a better year next year than Dorsey had in '07(which wasn't all that special due to his injury).

And damn, only a handful of replies? I thought I had more juice than that.

you mean impact-wise or stat-wise? it's pretty hard to top Dorsey's 07 stats.

Brockers, Nevis, and Downs as DTs I like the rotation

Montgomery as DE

Brockers was ready to play this past season from what I understand.

Imo I think the playmakers on the line next year will be:

L. Edwards
Brockers
Downs
C. Agheywh (don't know spelling of his last name)

with the possibility of
Nevis
Montgomery

Nevis has really let me down the past 2 years. He has that occasional big play then you don't hear about him till a couple games later.

I really think Downs and Edwards stand out next year.

Nevis just led the DL in tackles, tfls, and sacks without starting. Pretty good year IMO. If only our scheme stressed the DL getting into the backfield like it has in the past.

Will be difficult for any DT to have stats like our guys in the past. Chavis' systemn calls for the DT's to eat up blocks and allow the LB's to make plays. This is one reason our LB's looked much improved this past year, while the DL seemingly took a step back.

on a bad DL, who cares? You are comparing him to our other DLmen last year, I am comparing him to the player that I think he can be. And I didn't say he sucked, just that he didn't have the impact I thought he would. And a lot of that was likely due to his enormous gut.

I agree...Nevis isnt a premier player nor will he be (or didnt show signs of it this year).....
Hopefully Montgomery will be good and Edwards will have a good year...I think those two guys are key...

I don't know about that. Downs, Davenport and Nevis should be a good rotation at DT.

I like what I saw from C. Agherya(sp?) and am looking forward to seeing what Sam Montgomery can do.

Bottom line is that the D line needs to step it up next year.
